911 values going up
I have a 1997C2S and a 1985 911, for some reason I feel that the 1985 is much more reliable and will soon be worth a lot of money. My call is that any 911 WITHOUT a check engine light (CEL) will be in demand thus worth more. I have donated cars with CEL problems. Because some cars are not worth chasing the CEL problem.
The 911 cars without a CEL are going to skyrocket in value soon. |

I have been reading that for years now... When?
If they went up 20% right now it would just be back where it was 5 years ago...

the 3.2 Carreras have gone up in value 20% in the last year, by my observation. The SCs less so, because they started up 3-4 years ago. It's an interesting cycle. Maybe a good time to invest in a 964.

According to the Sports Car Market pocket guide ,which just came out, the 3.2 appreciated +3% and the SC +8% over the last year.

All things being equal your '85 will never be worth more than the '97.....

I think those numbers are about right but a year or two late. In the real world, Carreras have appreciated more and the SCs haven't been in the price trough for years. I'm seeing 964 prices stabilizing at their low now...

Maybe not an '85, but perhaps the '87-89?

Bad Economy
Doesn't anybody check the news, things are bad in certain circles.
I am glad my Porsche cars are just staying even, it's a pleasure to own any car that is not a deprecating asset. I am trilled to get any amount more from one year to the next. But to weigh in here...it's been discussed many times, original, original, original that's what holds value in the 3.2 's plus maintenance, color, low mileage, and you can't go wrong. |

While probably the most common, I consider those to be the classic colors of the era. My preference leans towards the non-metallic colors with Chiffon White (early 80's) being one of my favorites. If metallic, the lighter blues are nice and I'm warming to the browns/golds.
My current 993 is white and receives more complements from enthusiasts than my previous red, black and blue cars. Condition trumps color and while not a huge fan of red, I have owned two in that color because they were exceptional cars. What is your preference? |

I was able to get my '85 Carrera at a bargain price because it's Guards Red. I've noticed that guys in relationships are often forbidden red sports cars. I guess it just screams 'desperation.'

I was able to lessen the stigma a bit by backdating to the '73 look. But I am still suspected of wearing gold chains and a Members Only jacket.

J/K ![]() The beauty of these a cars is the ability to customize them to your taste. Singer is pulling major money from clients who want and can afford it. I'm still surprised by the lack of love for Guards Red on on 20+ year old cars, but I suppose those who remember them as new still instantly think "prick". Back on topic, I think original 3.2 Carreras will only appreciate in time and as the last of the air cooled's 993s will always be desirable and eventually accelerate in value... as an owner of a 993, I'm still drawn back to the 3.2's and earlier. |

IMHO, the recent sale of the 7K '87 for $50K is really a sign of weakness. It 'appeared' to be an exceptional car, (if the lack of a front trunk lid sticker can be explained or was an optical illusion). If these cars are headed toward 'collector' status, I think the premium should have been higher.

I bought a very early Euro 944 that is India red, about a loud as Guards, or maybe the same. It has grown on me even though I thought hard about a color change during the repaint.
Maybe the lateer low-mile high dollar cars are not worth a huge premium yet because people (sensibly) may want to buy cars that can be driven without being anal about putting on mileage. Who wants to die with the nicest car?
