What should I sell for?
So I used to be able to predict a good selling and buying price but in this market I'm at a loss. Here are my thoughts...would love to hear yours.
1974 914 2.0 Original everything 2 owner car. 90% of the mileage documented in a cool leather booklet from the PO. Great daily driver. Very little rust California Blue plate. Matching numbers, COA, Silver exterior Black interior orig color code. Fog lights, chrome bumpers, fuchs. original FI 2.0. 140K miles. All maintenance records available and up to date. $10,000 1972 911T Targa Numbers Matching Sepia Brun all original except for MFI changed to Italian Webers sometime in the late 70's. 2 Owner car. Seats and Targa top reupholstered in original colors. H1 headlights. All buttons and knobs original and intact, COA. amazing daily driver 5 speed. No problems mechanical or physical. All maintenance records available and up to date. Tool Kit original owners manual. 140Kmiles $28,000 Neither car is a show car but both are very original and look great and run even better. I can't find any matching examples for sale on here or The Samba etc so I'm not sure what going prices are. thanks

Hi Tristan,
IMHO it would help tremendously to see some pictures of the cars. I can't speak for the 914, but the 72T Targa price is bullish - not over the top, but a car selling for that amount gotta be in very good condition (technically and cosmetically) - especially in this color. While originality will always command a premium, sepia may be considered a "special" color by some potential buyers.

Since you asked....
'74 914 2.0: Sounds like a good example, but more details on the exterior/interior condition (and rust/previous crash damage) and originality are needed. These are nice driving little cars.
If the paint & interior are very good (either original or original quality respray/reupholstered), and the engine has been rebuilt (most 2.0's don't see 140k miles without some work) in the last few years $10k is a good starting point. Silver and black, while not really rare, is a nice combo IMO, no +/- either way. The engine condition is not as important as in a 911 (way less to rebuild). '72 911T targa: IMO $28k is a bit too much. Much of the '72 sought after status revolves around the single year oil tank in the rear QP, and I feel the coupe is worth a bit more (even more than normal in a '72) than a targa. I won't touch the targa versus coupe debate, the resale values speak for themselves. Sepia is another detractor (IMO), while I prefer it over red (or white), I think in general it's a slight "minus," whereas (for example) viper green would be considered a "plus." Being a "T" does not help matters, being the most common 911 variant. The lack of the stock MFI is not as important on a "T" as on an E or S, but originality nuts don't like it being absent. If the exterior/interior/engine are in very good condition, (no rust or previous crash damage) I'd say $20k - $24k. T values are slightly devalued since you can still find good E's (buy them now!) in the $25 to $30k range (if you're patient), and they have a much better appreciation potential. If I had a '72 viper coupe in good condition, I'd probably ask at least $30k though! I kick myself for passing on a nice '71 E coupe last year that sold in the low $20k range. |

Thanks for the opinions...makes sense. This is probably not the time to put my 72 up but I think I'm ready to let the 74 go. I appreciate the feedback.
