Carrera Dilema

Gents,
I have 2 carreras. problem is I can only keep one.
The first is a 1984 in slate grey (i really like the color) with burgundy interior (not too crazy about the color but it's pretty much mint). beautiful car with 119k miles on original motor. runs and drives great. no rear spoiler which i prefer. thinking it's worth $12-13k.

The other is a 1987 with silky smooth G50 which has been my car for the past year. 22k miles on rebuilt motor/trans and 144k total on clock. it needs some body work and seats redone. cold a/c too. very highly optioned (15 option codes i think). thinking $15-16k for this one.

So... if you guys were in my shoes which would you keep and which would you sell?
Help me out here, i just can't decide !

I'd keep the grey one, looks awesome. Too bad it's got a red interior...

man oh man.... i just can't decide. i'm pretty sure I'll be tossing and turning tonight. i was thinking of posting them both up for sale at an optimistic price (to me) and see which one sells first then keep the other.

Remember, once you go black you never go back... But they are hard to keep clean

If I was a betting man I'd wager the 'mint' one in a rare and desirable color will sell quite quickly at 12-13k, plus it looks to have a few nice options (wish mine had a rear wiper it seems cheap to me.

My 2c : I would keep the grey one and sell the black one. There are far fewer Grey than Black 3.2's.

BTW. Nice looking Sports seats in the 87 and not to cheat a future buyer, but they need recovering so what about swapping them out, and start changing the Burgandy interior over to black.

Take the tan interior out of the 87 and swap it out, including dash. Also switch the fuchs and sell the 87. The Slate grey car is sweet.

Which one?

I wouldn't start swapping things around. Keep them original. That grey and burgundy is a nice combo. Those tan sport seats go better in the black one. Let me know when you get ready to sell the black one.

No Brainer, keep the g50 with rebuild...I think you can get more than you think for other one. I am biased, I go for mechanical first. Good luck, Tim

I agree with Hugo930. Keep the 84. Unique color and mint condition is a plus.

If I were in your shoes, I'd make one killer 911 out of both. Swap motors and interiors and sell the black one. There's nothing wrong with a 915 transmission. I'd even grab the chin spoiler off of the 87. But that's just me...

Otherwise if you do sell the 84, I think 12-13K is too low unless there is something wrong with it. I'd shoot for 16-18K especially given the color and condition.

i must clarify something.
the 84 is not in mint condition. i was referring to the interior of the 84 being pretty much mint. that being said, the dash has been swapped out at some point for an 86-89 dash with the vents on the sides and all the knobs/switches are also the newer style. i actually prefer this style of dash over the pre-86 dash and that makes me like the car even more.
the issues with the grey car are:
1) someone keyed the front passenger fender which needs to be fixed. the scratches were filled in with touch up paint but need to be done properly.
2) the a/c does not work. this does not worry me as i know i can make it work again. (the 87 has upgraded a/c though and it works great)
3) cruise control does not work which does not bother me. the 87 doesn't work either.
4) some really smart person decided it would be a good idea to screw in 6x9 speaker grills in the doors to hide the crappy component speakers so there will be a couple of screw holes that need to be filled in. i never condone violence but some things are worthy of a good b!tch slap
otherwise it runs strong, brakes straight, suspension is tight. just needs some sport seats ....

which one?

There are some sport seats for sale right now in the classfieds (84 style), but they are black. When are ever going to use cruise control in a Porsche anyway. That not real driving.

At the moment, the market is paying disproportionately more for G50 cars. The G50 is a nice transmission, but it does not deliver an orgasm with every shift. A 915 rebuilt the right way and with well set up shifter will make most Porsche drivers happy. I say ask a bit more for the later car and keep the earlier one. Gray/Burgundy is a pretty cool combo.

here are some interior pics as well as pics of flaws on both cars.
the 84 has the scratches on the fender. i would put a momo wheel in it asap. looks like the passenger rear quarter panel may have been changed out and it shows some overlapping (maybe, i could be wrong about this). otherwise very nice.

the 87 has rust on both door sills, some paint bubbling behind driver side rear quarter window, and a little on front passenger fender. seats need to be recovered and the door pull handles redyed. it needs rear sway bar mount welded in (i have a new one just needs welded) as well as tie rods. i have already bought the turbo rod kit, ss brake lines and caliper rebuild kits and was going to do it all in one shot but i just haven't gotten the chance to get it up on stands to take the front end apart. at that time i was also going to lower it and get an alignment. the rally look doesn't do it for me. don't mind the dust, i mowed the lawn yesterday evening and haven't cleaned the cars off yet.

I would unload the black one since it has some serious rust issues.

That rust is a problem.

Those 6x9 front speakers are hideous.
Still, keep the 84.

Sell the 87. Good news- Given the body issues, interior issues and mechanical strengths it could be a great hot rod project for someone with welding skills.

Bad news - I think your price will need to come down.
