I don't think that's too far out of line. I pristine 930, 10k miles, 1 owner from new. What would Sloan sell that car for? At least 100k.

The deal-breaker for me is that he has it out in the snow. I'm sure it's not winter driven, especially at that mileage, but it does indicate that it's maybe not properly stored in the winters, or maybe started up for short periods then put away. I think with mileage like that there's a lot of work in keeping rubber in good shape, and bringing it out in the snow for pics doesn't really speak well to that.

It's spammed across every major city on Craigslist... because that's the best place to sell a 100k car.

I think that's a lot to read into a few pictures in a CL ad. If the alternative is having pics taken from 4 feet away in the garage, isn't it reasonable to take a car outside for pictures? I would read more into the non-existent description...

The ad itself is terrible though, I agree the seller's on *moderate* crack, a car like this needs to be marketed way better in order to realize anything close to $100K. Not to say that it couldn't, but it's gonna take more than a free ad on CL. If this was my car I'd be contacting Excellence or the other P-car mags to have them write a puff piece on my "time capsule".

Cheers

I thought the same thing. I see nothing wrong with taking pictures with the car sitting on snow. Doesn't say anything about how the car is cared for or stored. Just says he wants to get pictures of it in natural light in the dead of winter.

I always wonder about these cars. For a collector, you're buying a VIN and some kind of documented engine mileage. It's numbers and paint. For that, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay and will never be driven. For that, I'm guessing the buyer expects to be taken to dinner or something.

For a car that someone would actually want to drive, you're much better off with an example that has done 100k miles recently. At any price.

I disagree. $100k is TOP of the market - the BEST car that you can buy of that vintage. You store it perfectly for the winter and leave it untouched, the way a museum would treat their cars. It's like turning over a vintage bottle of wine to take a picture of it. No, you find other ways.

For another $150k you can get an rs... Why not if you are willing to spend $100k for a 930.

i dont think $100k is the top of the market. 3.0 turbo carreras are changing hands privately for over $100k. sloan had a 78 with 1k miles which he sold once for around $125k. he now has it back for $150k. the mcqueen 930 sold for over $100k. i know of a 1 off 79 that people are lined up to buy and if he sold it the owner would get well over $100k.

We can armchair quarterback from our keyboards and pick apart the guy's ad but the reality is if any of us was a player on a car like this we would be on an airplane looking at it in person and getting the story.
I too don't think $100k is beyond the current market if the car checks out. Most people viewing this will never know if the car checks out, myself included.

I agree. Sometimes the nicest most honest guys have zero skills when it comes to marketing a car on the internet, and that is ok. You have to be careful what you read into ads and photos, I agree. But is it just me or do the seats seem to have a lot of wear for a 10k mile car? I mean if the car spent time in the sun etc, I can see it......but if the car was taken car of I would expect those seats to be pretty plush considering mileage. Maybe I am wrong

6 figures for a for a very nice original fully documented 930 was breached along time ago. In term of value 75 the most valuable, followed by 76-77 and then 87-79. Collector's have been buying these for a few years, not many were built and fewer yet have survived heavy mods, slope noses, accidents etc. $250 k RS's, not for few years, $450-700K anymore. Nice S's are $150k and up these days.
