Bought a car on ebay Guy wants more $$ now???
I purchased a car from a guy on ebay . .
I hit the buy it now,, sent the 500 bucks paypal deposit. and sent the cashier check in the mail. Now the guy emails me and telling me he is canceling the deal ,, he listed it to low and I should pay him 1500 more to get it or he will resell it. I have heard of buyer remorse but seller remorse . what to do ... |

A deal is a deal. Unfortunately, it take a village and every village has its idiots. Sounds like you found one. Definitely report him to eBay, but I would insist on your money back. Who knows what an idiot will do to the car if he doesn't get his way.

He has probably received an offer for more than you paid and he is trying to squeeze you. Demand he go thru with the sale or you will report him to ebay .He might complete the sale or he might try to strip out some value from the car who knows. Or demand your deposit back and then trash his feedback or demand refund and just move on.

If (and only if) I buy something high value at auction I always study sellers history
Does he sell car usually, is he in fact using his sisters account as she usually sells clothes, that sort of thing give it away, the last complete dick, was a porsche-phile as well takes all sorts I suppose good luck anyway

I won a 1972 z28 on ebay last year at a relativly low price. The seller was claiming he had build sheet and original engine and original carb, distributer and some other key parts
in storage. Before the auction ended I asked if original engine or original specification engine He emailed orig block and heads. I won and sent a deposit. I then asked for pictures to verify his engine claims. I had to send an appraiser to look as the seller couldn,t or wouldn,t send clear pictures of casting numbers and dates. It turned out the block was cast 4 month after the car was built and the heads were cast a year earlier. The other unique parts were now not to be found. He refused to renegotiate based on missing parts . I demanded my deposit back because the seller was not to be trusted. He kept my $1000 deposit but I was compensated $1000 by Ebay because of the paper trail. )I was still out the $250 I spent on an appraisal The seller was banned from ebay but is probably selling again under a diff screen name. The car was probably still a good deal at the price but the problem with ebay is the ebay sellers, many are grifters and cons ,hidden among the normal people .

Keep in mind that the best cars typically sell locally. Ebay is a good 'fallback' for sellers with less than stellar cars. I've let a lot of cars go on eBay because I will not bid fill market value unless I can put eyes on the car. Almost anything can be made to look great in a few photos.

I once heard that the best definition of a 'good politician' is one who when bought, stays bought. Apparently this one isn't a good politician.

Honestly, I'd just take my money back and be happy with that. He is back to where you started (he still has the car) and if he makes you whole again (you get all of your money back, including PayPal fees), then you are back to where you started too. So neither party is harmed. Move on and look for another deal, there are plenty of deals out there, so don't lose too much sleep over a remorseful seller. At least you weren't "screwed" or at least not yet, assuming you get your money back and the check is good. You might request a cashier's check as that is how you paid him!

Yes, what Kirk said. Tell him to send your money back, and then file the claim with paypal saying the buyer backed out of the deal. Deals like this get stickier and stickier when one of the two parties is slippery. Reporting him to eBay will accomplish nothing. They don't care. Just be happy he isn't keeping your cashier's check and disappearing! -- Matt

Matt is correct. They don't care and it accomplished nothing.
Auctions in the US are non-binding for automobiles and houses. Furthermore, if he did go through with the deal and there were issues with the car , you are back in the same boat. eBay does not care. On older cars the buyer protection only protects you from a payment made with no receipt of the item. If I were you I would be extremely happy if you got your deposit back. |

I think this quote originally referred to the definition of an "honest" politician: that once bought, he stays bought.

Although the seller should have stuck to his word its hard to feel too sorry for the OP who is basically using Pelican parts to sell things he buys on ebay/similar places and flips. The OP's outrage is laughable as he is basically has a side business to sell used Porsche parts under the rader in PP. In all likelihood the seller realized this and re-listed.
