Is an E worth more than a T?
Just wondering if a '70E is worth more than a similar T if the original engine is long gone. Any thoughts?

It may be if you find the right buyer that has an E engine looking for a home.

I wouldn't mind mating an E engine to it but I'm not willing to pay $8k+ for a core

Only a little more, since the engine is what differentiates a T from an E. You get bragging rights around the VIN. I'd say +5%

That seems reasonable.

Man, I hate seeming reasonable.
![]() My answer was the logical one, but the wild card is that your prospective purchaser may have a 70 E engine. And that would make the car more valuable still to that particular person. A type-matching car is more valuable, though obviously less so than numbers-matching. For your one in a million prospect -- the man with the original engine in his garage -- it's not easy for him to go backwards from an engine number to a VIN and find your car. However, you can get information using the VIN to find correct engine and transmission number via Kardex and/or CoA (I believe they're available throughout North American markets). If you want to publish what the original engine number was, there could be a happy reunion in the future. It's happened before.
