Minerva Blue

Am I confused, or are these people?

1982 Porsche 911SC Coupe for sale | Hemmings Motor News

1974 Porsche 911 for sale | Hemmings Motor News

Can't get a good look at the code on the '82 car, but I'm betting it says 30T, not 304. I've spoken with the dealer a few times and they've promised to get me a picture of the color code, but I haven't heard from them since Friday afternoon so I'm moving on.

It looks more like Diamond Blue to me. Minerva is a much darker color, IIRC.

Here's an example from a search of the cars-for-sale forum.

In the used-car world, the 1982 car is referred to as..... loser blue. Not a good choice for a 911, or any other car for that matter.

Scientific consensus is that blue in any shade is the best suited color for the shape and character of an air-cooled Porsche 911.

I've been in market for an air-cooled car and have hopes of coming across a Minerva Blue car so I was excited when I saw the ad for that car.... but quite disappointed when I actually saw it. I contacted the dealer to see if it may have been originally Minerva and then repainted. but they're not talking. Oh well, I'll find something that catches my attention. They distracted me from calling on a great looking Granite Green car though.

By the way, I'm also in Louisville. Good to see some locals on here.

I think it is an attractive color. But I agree that it is probably L30T - Light Blue Metallic.

this paint sample site is somewhat inconclusive:

http://www.adelgigs.com/911colours.shtml

Could be Minerva or Light blue metallic, as you described.

The deal with the two cars you linked is that one is photographed indoors under bright shop lights, and the other is outside in natural light.

Here is a claimed L30T car under natural light:

and the car you were looking at:

And here is a 1981 in Minerva Blue:

Looking at the side by sides I don't think that car in SoCal is Minerva. It's a shame the broker won't give you a straight answer. I guess their reputation is at least partly founded in reality.

Metzger, I have noticed several others here from the Louisville area. We will have to get together sometime soon as the weather will go the way of being able to drive our Porsches. I did get to drive mine thursday and yesterday. Hopefully you as well.

The Minerva Blue car is gorgeous, and under natural light the 30T colored car looks much better. The car mentioned in the OP's picture looks dull/faded.

MrBonus... I'd like to read up on this scientific consensus you write of...

I'm in the process of selling off all of my toys and locating my first 911 so I'm missing out on the decent weather for now. Hopefully I'll have something to enjoy in the coming months. Do you go to Cars and Coffee?

When possible, I work saturdays so it's hit and miss... Happy hunting, picking/locating the right car is a challenge, or it can be. Are you searching near here, or staying on the eastern side of the US? As far as cars and coffee, I'll check in with you when I go, or vice-versa.

I'm searching everywhere.... pretty sure I've seen every 911 currently for sale in the US. Not much luck locally. I need to stop in at some of the shops and put the word out, but I haven't made my rounds yet. I'm often working on Saturdays as well, but I try to make it when I can. I'll let you know.

Looks like Light Blue metallic car to me...and that's my old SC Targa in the driveway. My guess is poor lighting and lousy digital camera.

Very nice looking car. I am usually not a fan of chrome headlight rings on anodized trim cars, but they really work with that color and the polished aluminum on the Fuchs.

Did you sell it?

Here is my "loser" Minerva Blue 1979 930. My experience is that people are overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic about the color. But maybe it's just that people are being really really nice to me because they feel pity that I am such a massive loser.

I think he's saying that the actual color of the '82 car is "loser blue", not the advertised color. I don't know anyone who doesn't love minerva blue.

Yeah, sold it about 3 years ago. Went to VA, now it's in Europe. Hated sugar scoops and was concerned about matching color on H4 trim rings, so I went with chrome. It did work well w/ the Weidman polished lip 7/9's. Had 65,000 miles when I sold it, probably one of the cleanest on the planet.

I believe blues were called "can't buy me blue" in the '80s because everybody wanted white, red, silver, or black and blue cars tended to sit on the lot. I believe my car sat on the lot for over a year before it was sold.

Ironically, as we're seeing now, blues are a bit more rare and command a premium over the more common Porsche colors.
