911 s value

Found a local 1975 911 s w/ steel flares, turbo tail, claims to have a decade of receipts, 2.7 rebuilt 15 years ago, has 11 blade fan, BBS wheels, paint & body work appear in great shape, interior very clean, usual small oil leaks, any idea on value? Car to be enjoyed as a driver.

Any input would be helpful

What's the factory color, and is it still that shade? I assume it was repainted when they installed the flares. Mileage?

Pictures would be very helpful.

My personal view is that the fender flares are a negative, even if professionally done. Some might disagree, but I think the narrow body look is what is helping the value of the mid years -- the chrome and simple lines more closely resemble longhoods than later cars.

The BBS wheels tend to drag down market appeal as well. If all the trim has been anodized, that is another negative. Without pictures, BBS wheels and flares scream 80's "update." If it has been repainted red and otherwise molested, that is not good.

There are a lot of variables that would affect price, but with the limited information I would think $15-20k is a fair range. Toward the top if verifiable low mileage (~100k) and an interesting factory color, toward the bottom if more common, repainted in a different color, and higher mileage or unknown.

That's what does it for me on a midyear. I personally wouldn't pay over $12k for a car like that, even in today's market. Others will think the turbo body look makes it more interesting. All about personal tastes.

Probably less that $15k, and maybe closer to what Matt suggests, if it is a full on 1980s refit (wheels, tail, flares, funky gauges, repaint to red) of questionable quality.

Though this car is not an apples-to-apples comparison, and has the additional downside of being a targa chopped to a cabriolet, it shows the challenge with "updates":

It is a 1975 targa with a pretty thorough 993 cab conversion, a repaint, and a very recent 3.2 engine rebuild from a respected shop, and a new clutch. But it has been stuck on craigslist for months at $18900, probably meaning he is getting no legit offers at $17.5k.

1975 Porsche 911, 993 cabriolet, rebuilt motor

Backdates are money right now, updates are not.

Yeah, but I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Probably when mid years were $6k cars.

At least the original car wasn't a '72.
