In total agreement
In it's present condition, I wouldn't consider trying to sell my car for 30K. That's why I asked forum members to help evaluate the car. I appreciate all the input I have received and feel the responses have been genuine and frank. Thank you all very much!

I'm just bummed I sold two of them for $5k, albeit a long long time ago!

response to NYNIck
I guess hindsight truly is 20:20. I sold a 69 912 15 minutes after I parked it near the Hospital I worked at. Paid 1700 for a pretty rusty car, put 2k into it, new paint etc ( 2nd car I ever painted.. was gorgeous), and sold it for 5500.
This was in 1990, though. It was a factory sunroof model, only 417 made. Ah well, I'm sure many posters have similar tales of woe. I once sold a Fiat 1959 1200 cabriolet for $1500, I paid 50 dollars for in pieces...owner was using radiator as passive heat exchanger to heat pool, chassis number 103. Restored it. Today, same car worth over 20k. Capitalism at work, i guess. |
A couple years ago I gave one away...

No offense meant to 912Porscheguy and any other 912 owners, but $30k plus for a 912 is territory that is hard to believe. Back in the mid 1960's, these cars were built to satiate the US owners who were pissed off about the 4 banger 356 going away. The factory was concerned that the 6 cylinder cars with a new body style wouldn't take off, or that customers wouldn't pay a substantial premium for the 911. That's why, once they did, the 912 was discontinued until the oil embargo a few years later.
It was a poor man's 911. If you're 'poor' today however, you not buying a 912! True, there's a lot of value in the (911) chassis, and dependability in the (356/VW) engine. But it's not and never will be a 911, with 4 cylinders behind you. BTW, two 912's were my first two Porsches. They were why I fell in love with the brand, and the reason I'm a Porsche fanatic today. They were very, very cool cars for the money, but at $30k, I'll try another Porsche model, thank you very much. |
Might I add, I'm with you 100% 912Porscheguy, and I hope you do well with your sale!
