Question about 996 steering wheels
Guys,
In my quest to find a nice 996 to buy I have a question. Why do some 911's have a four point steering wheel and some have a three point wheel? Is it because the four point wheel has some controls on it? Radio controls maybe? I see some of both types on the 99-00 models. The 01 and later all have the three point style. Just wondering. See below. ![]() ![]() |

It is just a year thing.
The four point carried over from the 993 and also into the Boxster, and was updated in 2001. The top picture is for a car with a Tiptronic transmission, and has the upshift/downshift buttons on it. The bottom picture is a manual, so it has no buttons. On post-2001 Tiptronic cars, the three point wheels also have the buttons.

What he said. Many 993 owners prefer the 3 spoke 996 wheel and have changed over. There are other options also. Longer-legged drivers like me prefer a smaller diameter wheel and may choose an after-market wheel.
