Upgrade a matching 2.0 to 2.2E orS?
I have an early Euro 68 T coupe with a matching 2.0 110 hp engine, needing engine top end work. The good/bad is the non counter-weighted crank. The bad is the inefficient heads and small displacement. Would an upgrade to 2.2E or S spec (with case, oil pump, etc upgrades) increase or decrease the value of the finished car? This isn't going to be a concours car, just a very nice driver.

Would have very little impact on the value, if any. The plus in value is that you would have receipts for a fresh engine rebuild.
Btw, the crank isn't really a hit in many people's eyes. For years racers used that crank because it was lighter. The real downside of that engine is the cast iron cylinders and poor heads. If you rebuilt with some overbored cylinders, bumped the compression, and massaged the heads, you would have a nice fun little driver. I'd do it. |
