1987 yellow carrera

Sad what happened to this car.

Too bad didn't go to a loving, caring, enthusiast.

I really liked the car when it was posted on pelican and I remember reading " a friend of the owner bought it. You will see the car again @ local PCA events "

For a car in excess of 150k miles, the price is a little high. I'd say mid 20s for this car, good color, decent shape.

I can't imagine anyone entertaining that price, let alone from a private Craigslist seller.

Flipper driven market

Sad indeed as I believe it is one of only two summer yellow coupes in NA. The car was a ostensibly a quality example and I think considering the color rarity and based on the pics and history the high twenties (depending on the re build details) was a very fair number. Faverymi is right, it would have been really nice to have seen it passed on to an enthusiast.
Personally I hope the multitude of flippers we have been seeing here and elsewhere will fall by the wayside when the inevitable market slow down and 'correction' happens. Naive maybe but anyone else old enough to remember the Ferrari and Muscle Car bubbles ?

The guy who sold it to the unsuspecting "flipper" thought the buyer was a PCA enthusiast and was always wanting a yellow air-cooled 911.

He was a bit peeved when I showed him the link from "cars" and mentiond that he had an offer from someone else for $2,000 more than the aksing price but decided to be fair and let the first buyer take it.

It had 191,000 miles on it and was in really nice condition inside and out.
Odd color combo inside - white and dark brown.

Hope flipper gets run over by Karma...

I am thinking it will almost certainly end up with an enthusiast next.

Who else would pay 30k for a yellow, 1980s 911 with that kind of mileage?

If the guy lied to him and cost him 2k maybe he should report him for being an unlicensed dealer and also maybe to the IRS so he is taxed on his business/short term captial gains?

And folks here whine and complain when I dog on flippers. LOL.

There's a very good reason flippers are hated. And it has nothing to do with market economies or personal points of view on making money.

Unfortunately, that will just waste the resources and time of your state licensure board and the IRS, assuming you can even get someone to listen to your complaint.

Well, if this is the same car, the ad says current mileage is 72K. So if 191K is documented (or even something near that) then karma is going to run over him mighty fast. I think even in 'anything goes' Floriduh, they look down on mileage misrepresentation.

I think that the market is cooling down a bit.

Remember the Dgriz green SC targa that he paid 12K for? Sold in on ebay for around 25K to a dealer who ended up losing money on the car after upgrading the engine.

I am not so sure that the flippers will have it as easy in the future as they have for the last 5 years.

If I had the means I would probably not be buying a 911 right now - pretty satisfied with the sale of my Caramel Brown SC even though it was close to prestine and I spent 1,5 years working on it/detailing it.

Just focusing on my 912E and taking it easy for now.

Cheers and happy New Year,

Christian.

Don't be so sure that dealer lost money on that green car. Just because he wrote a sob story here as he was trying to sell another car does not make it a fact that he lost money.

It looks like this one is back up for sale -

Porsche 911 Carrera | eBay .

Original Pelican ad -

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/786835-1987-summer-yellow-over-linen-mahogany-interior-sale-carrboro-nc.html .

Does anyone remember what the owner was selling this one for? Was it $22K?

Before anybody hangs effigies of the current owner, that car has been on cars.com for a high but sane price of $37,500 for a number of weeks.

The ebay lists 71k in the top section, but includes this disclaimer:

Quote:
Mileage is since engine rebuild total mileage on car is in excess of 150K
It is a bush league move, but he is not technically misrepresenting the vehicle.

I used to defend flippers, perhaps because I've never previously owned a car in a hot market, but it's annoying to see eager enthusiasts undercut by people who spend their day hawking internet ads just to sell the same car right back to buyers who just happen to see the ad a few minutes later.

I don't begrudge brokers who assist disinterested or technically inadequate sellers for a fee but the buy, wash, and relist crowd saddens me.

You'd think for all the emphasis being given to the rarity of the color, the ad would show a picture of the color code plate...

This ad on Excellence has been up for over 3 months. Laughable asking price.
Excellence :: Porsches for Sale : 1987 911 Carrera for sale in Trinity Fl

Very shady to list the mileage at 70k and bury the real mileage in the text.
