1965 911 price range?
Sitting in a warehouse for 20 years, true mileage unknown, older repaint with some rust bubbles, "no large areas of rot" for whatever that's worth... cracked dash and ripped interior, aftermarket steering wheel, 2L running with a recent tune up, dont know if numbers match or if it has original carbs.
Vague I know, but what would you say is the price range is based on worst case/best case scenarios based on the above? What would the difference be if it was a 1965 build date '66 model vs a 1965 model year car? Thanks

Rust bubble on top mean rust under and total resto on 65 is almost 100k.

Thanks for the replies, I see a Sept 65 build car(After August means 66MY right?) sell for 115k at bonhams a few months ago. Looks like it was mostly original and numbers matching documented car, but in need of resto.
Bonhams : 1965 Porsche 911 Coupe Chassis no. 302226 Engine no. 902350 Im working on getting numbers from the seller and will keep you posted if I can. If its a non matching, no documentation Model year '65 (pre august build date), where would it sit? I know its hard to guess with such little info but ~30k for a non matching 66 seems low IMHO. Its not a complete rust bucket by the looks of it, but just about everything would probably need to be gone through.

Thank you, I appreciate your comments. Ill post more info as I can find it. I can imagine a restoration to original is not at all cheap.

All the pieces are there, numbers match and the rust isn't too bad, and you have some idea of the history well over 100k
A 66 as above complete matching #probably $65k Non matching numbers, missing parts, missing solexes 30k + Of course if its a rare color more. |

I see, thanks for your response. So 30k is not far off for a worst case. Perhaps my perception of value is skewed by the high asking prices recently, but I thought higher.

If this is a real car, remotely as you described, and it will sell for anywhere even close to $30k, PM and I'll buy it now in almost any condition (so will dozens of others on these boards).

I might be off and ebay sees some higher prices but I think the hard to find parts, carbs, air cleaner, interior trim being there will obviously drive the WCS price up.

Its a real car but looks like the seller is looking for ~usd$80k+.
Is it safe to say it should be a 65MY with matching numbers and solexes in need of rust repair/interior restoration at that price?

There are just too many variables to boil it down that way. It sounds like an interesting car. But if you don't know exactly what you're looking at, and you don't have a firm grasp of the market, you're almost asking to be taken advantage of when buying a really early car. I own, literally, dozens of Porsches and consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable - especially in regards to the longhood cars. But even I went looking for help when I bought my '65.

Yes this is the exciting part ! Now find out what color it was / is and what options it came with. Like the other posters mentioned there are too many variables without seeing pics, but try pricing any parts for a 65 car. The prices for good cars are extremely high, so maybe if there is some room on his price and its complete, it could easily be worth the ask.
There is an an interesting thread on early911sreg where someone was buying a very early car and put out a request for help and got someone who really knows the 64/65 cars to come and look at it with him. I cant remember how it worked out but its absolutely worth taking a look over there. |
