First thing I thought when looking at the pictures was, 'no way'. Steering wheel looks chafed. Drivers carpet is worn through in maybe 2 places. Engine bay looks like more than 14k. Headlights look chipped. I don't know…I'm no expert.
But when a 28 year old car with 14k comes out you look for flags. I saw some. Christian saw some. Don't have to get all upset about it. No hating, just observing. If we're wrong, we're wrong. Only a real inspection can tell for sure.

True on the physical inspection but you have to realize that this is a 28 y.o. car owned by a guy who is not really an enthusiast in the strictest sense. The "carpet" repeatedly mentioned is a floor mat that's been stepped on almost 14k times. They don't wear well. The engine compartment looks clean to me if it hasn't been cleaned recently.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. I don't know what else to say besides the miles are legit. I'm not asking anyone to buy it here...just wondering what the steps were to maximize value and where to post it. Thanks for all of the answers.
I wouldn't consider my father an enthusiast (I guess, if he was, then he wouldn't put things on the car he thought looked cool...personal taste and all) but he's careful with everything. I don't really think he ever thought about the day he'd sell it so he definitely made it the way he wanted, but hardly drove it except for special occasions, or to blow off some steam. When Christian says Docs and books, what does he mean? Try to remember I know next to nothing about cars and am helping someone who is not well versed with message boarding. I'll post them if it helps, but if it doesn't matter (or if it will bring posts of LOLL!1! THOSE ARE FAKE!) then I'll pass the info I have along to him. |

Zomp,
It looks like a good car that has been a little over-done for most Porsche enthusiasts here. We can be pretty picky when it comes to modifications...most would call us borderline snobs or worse. Docs and books would refer to any paperwork that shows the car's ownership, maintenance and/or repair history to include factory window sticker and logs if available. All that said, pelican or rennlist classifieds should find a buyer. May we ask what $$ you intend to seek for the car? Last edited by pavulon; 06-27-2014 at 08:46 PM.. |

I guess this is where all the Bring A Trailer guys test out their insults.
Why attack? OP is simply asking for direction in selling the car. It is the new fad since BAT to just beat up every ad without any correct information. Funny insult of the day? Calling seller a lier for no reason? what else? Do I like all the added details? No, but one can see they are easily removed and OP is actuating asking if they should be removed. To The OP I would remove the stickers and smaller details. Those are $5k wheels so they have value one way or another. Spend $200 and have a real detail done to the car. As you can see this is what you will be dealing with these days in trying to sell a car. It is so easy to type an insult on a keyboard. Looks like someone enjoyed it the way it sits but to reach a broader audience you have to make some changes or wait for someone with same taste. Good Luck!! |

I am absolutely positive my 930 has less than 30k miles. My dad bought it 1984. It has plenty of cosmetic flaws. I recovered the seats for example the leather was dry and cracked even though they weren't used much. 30 years is a long time.
Anyways even our fantastic peanut gallery can't date a car accurately by a few pics.

It's all a permanent, searchable record. Including your worthless and uninformed contributions.
Didn't you do the same thing here recently? Declare that someone's mint car for sale must have recovered seats because it had supple leather, which you as an expert knew that Porsche never put in that model? Yes, that was you. Assclown...

Hey Audi, do you have any Porsche-specific knowledge to share with us today? We all need a good laugh here.
![]() Make sure to deliver it in an authoritative, "final answer" kind of way. Lol... |

I'd believe the mileage but yeah, all the mods are awful.
I had an 86 951 with 52k miles and it had far more little cosmetic issues. A car just can't sit around for 28 years without getting some little scratches. |

Zomp,
Car has alot of pluses going for it. Many folks like the 86 951 best(like me) black over black driver sport seat no dash cracks low miles original owner Some things which you can do to help get a good value. 1. Does your dad still have all the original documents/records--if so, list the maintenance and when it was performed. The big one will be timing belt/water pump--has it been done, if so, when? 2. Get a COA from Porsche. 3. List the opiton codes--should be on the sticker in the owners manual (if you still have). If not, they will be listed under the hatch carpet near the rear lights. 220--limited slip is the big one here. 4. If you have the original parts--wheels, spoiler, etc.--put back to stock. With the radio--if you have the original, you can leave as-is, just include it with the sale. 5. Remove the decals from the fenders, rear deck. You have a nice car there and 15-20K can be on the money provided some of the above steps are taken.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. Much appreciated.
15-20k was what I was hoping for. I think he expected a little more, but again he's very biased to this car and has a little bit of a warped sense of the worth (of course, if you've loved something so much I suppose you would too). It sounds like the car, back to its original look, and the wheels and rims in a separate sale could go for around 20k...maybe more. That is excellent. Again, thanks guys! |

I would put the base car in the $14-16k range. I would sell the wheels separately.
The stereo doesn't bother me, especially since you would include the original. I would get rid of all the decals. I think it is a pretty nice car and being bone stock to me is not as important on a 944 as it would be for an older 911-912. Good luck with sale. |
