Price Evaluation on a 1986 944 Turbo with less than 15k miles?

Hi guys,

I was recommended to this website by a few people who are into cars but couldn't provide me with the information that I need.

My father wants to sell his 86 944 Turbo. I am not a car buff by any means but told him I would help in any way that I could. I am posting some info and pictures about the car with hopes that someone could help us get a feel for a good price point.

First off, to say the car is in excellent condition is an understatement. For 28 years this has been my father's pride and joy. There are less than 15,000 original miles on the car. A few years ago he was bored and decided to modify the soundsystem, wheels, turbo running boards, mirrors, rims, spoiler, and door handles. He also added some "turbo" decals to the car. However, we still have the ORIGINAL door handles, mirrors, rims, radio, and tires.

In '86 he also added a 3'' stainless steel racing exhaust, and a turbo chip along with air cleaner and spark plugs to boost up the horsepower. He also has a spare turbo chip still in its original box.

The car has been maintained with synthetic oil during its lifetime. I am not exaggerating when I say the car has never seen rain and has been driven by one person.

Is this a joke? Why would anyone do that to a 14k classic? But seriously....that is not a 14k miles car. Maybe 140k.

If the miles are genuine, which looks like are, put the car back to stock condition asap if you want to sell. People will go nuts over a 14,000 mile 951, but they want an original car without any "mods".

As for value.. stock pristine low mileage turbos are being bid north of 15-20k on eBay. Their values are definitely on the up.

Not a joke...I'm not sure why you'd think the miles aren't genuine?

Thanks Black Falcon. Thats what I thought in regards to stock parts but wanted to make sure.

Right....Here is a tip. Buy a worse camera next time you are trying to sell something like this as a 14k car.

But considering your dad bought this fine machine in 86 you might want to post pics of the window sticker, the booklets and the documentation. Porsche buffs love stuff like that!

If legitimately 14K miles, this car needs an emergency un-pimping.

Those HRE wheels are not everyone's cup of tea.
If you still have the orig wheels, my advice is to put those on and list the HRE wheels on craigslist/eb@y/here/r#nnlist etc.

Have any decals removed. A decent detail shop can do this and detail it at the same time. Take fresh pics, put it on ebay.

That's my advice.

Indeed. I have no problem believing the miles, maybe Christian need to have his eyeglass prescription checked(?) But what do I know, I only sold them new in 1986. Looks pretty new to me.

As others have stated, this car has collector value and any deviations or mods from stock will hurt its value. The good news is that your dad kept the stock parts, put them all back on and remove any personal touches and custom features. The stereo is unfortunate, do you still have the stock panel and radio?

Best of luck with it, the color, black/black, is the best on these cars, IMO. Does it have Fuchs rims originally? That would be icing on the cake.

Get glasses or use zoom, Einstein.

Carpet, hood, broken buttons, groved discs, scuffed plexi in front of gauges etc.

Pretty rare option with only one sport seat though.....

I would not call you guys naive, so have a nice weekend.

Cheers,

The know-nothing hater.

One sport seat was an option, Einstein. And the other things you mention are either functions of the car being 28 years old, (how many times do you suppose the plastic in front of gauges has been dusted-off?), or things that could happen at 2k miles, (button pushed in).

What do you think happens when you don't drive a car, the world stops spinning and it stays April 6th, 1988?? What an expert you are.

Chill out speed. Like I said "rare" option. Lets just agree that you are right, eh!? I really dont care unless some buyer actually believes this "ad". Hate to see people ripped off - But why dont you buy it? (no reponse needed, as I am done here)

Christian, my problem is with people jumping on as an "expert" and trashing someone's car here. Some cars deserve to be trashed but this is not one of them. Sure, it has some personalization that is not desirable to the general market but it all seems reversible.

I don't doubt the miles at all. The drivers seat looks almost new.

Denis,

How do the edges of the rear rubbers look? Like grandpa drove it to Church?

Did you see the drivers side carpeting, discs etc. and put 2+2 together?

**** me (like Ramsay says it )

Now I am really done,

cheers!

The floor mat looks like it's been stepped on 14k times over 28 years. The rest looks good but not new. The guy has been enjoying the car all these years, not rubbing vasoline on it for little Christian's approval in the year 2014.
