Looks like a real beauty. Must resist...... So how can I set my parental controls to lock me out of the cars for sale section? ![]()

I wonder if that car is a tad underpriced. Bet it sells quickly.

While this is a wonderful car I would be hard pressed to spend $30,000 on a car with a de tuned 356 motor with less than 90 H.P. that goes 0-60 in 16 seconds! It really would be not too different from a 67 VW bug except the bug has quicker steering. I owned a 63 356 for years and I loved it's character but I always hated the dog factor. That it why I own a 911 today.

That's funny, the Beetle comment. A swb 912 is a blast to drive on country roads. You just have to understand momentum.

Yup a 912 is fun on country roads. So is a Yugo. Fellas, the 912 is a terrible dog. I believe after thinking about it, it only had about 60 H.P. and was heavier that the 356. Even a MG had way more HP than that! But to be fair the MG would just sit in your garage oozing liquids and rotting away and ........

Sorry Matt, I just realized you owned a 912. I mean no harm. But, still a dog. I owned so many VW buses and bugs in my life and I remember on road trips with my Wife we would hit the Grapevine in California and use the momentum!

I don't take this stuff personally. I've owned beetles and a bus too and they aren't the same thing. You can bag on the 912 engine but it has the 911 chassis. Hell, Vic Elford even rallied the 912. Your comparison to driving like a Yugo or Beetle is just a bit too much hyperbole to swallow without calling bs.

There is a lot more to driving a car than going fast.
IMO an early 911/912 is the ultimate in style. A little bit more than a 356 and a lotta bit more than a bug or bus.

I love VW cars and Porsche cars! Had them all my life. It is true that there is more than just going fast. But I would rather go a little faster than really, really slow. And to spend $30,000 to boot! The 912 is a real good looking car that is real slow. Painfully slow. But it can take a corner! OK, to be fair, we own a 2001 Dodge Caravan! Lots to make fun of!

BTW, a 912 with a Shasta 1720 big bore kit and a cam comes in more like 120hp. That's more than a '68 911T and with the lighter weight will outdrive a '69-71 911T. It's no S, but far from a dog. But that's just an opinion. I own and love 914s as well.

The 914 is a really cool car. Always liked them. They were the ultimate value sports car for California under the sun!

I always considered them an ugly Ghia until I drove one. Just like the 912, the fact that the 914 has a Porsche suspension on it makes all the difference in the world.

Owned two 912's in my day. Why? Because I could afford them/not afford similar year 911's. Dogs they are not. Fun, cool, awesome sport cars that taught me about cornering and going fast without big hp.
But let's face it: they were Porsche's answer to the uproar of the 911 intro and no 356 any longer, plus they had the engines hanging around anyway. SwB cars are cool. Swb 911's are crazy money. If you want one and everything that goes along with it (except hp), 912 is the answer. But to me, $30k buys one awesome SC or maybe even a 3.2. My choice is 911 at that point, all the way. Of course, it all personal preference.

Hello
Nick, sorry your out of touch about vintage Porsches...
912's are one of the best sport cars built....too bad people do not understand them. One of greatest thrills is to run a 912 to the MAX...on a good road course like Mid-Ohio.. Amateur drivers like most of us, do not have the skill level to run a 911 full bore, but the 912 allows you to do this, in fact in the turns it can easily beat a 911.... So understand the cars...the other thing, I am glad they are going up..up..up....most are laughing all the way to the bank... |

^^citation needed. The slightly lighter weight of a 912 isn't getting it through a corner quicker than a 911 if that's where you're headed. That being said, I would love to own a 912....they look hilariously fun to drive (never actually had the pleasure). I don't see the lack in power being a detractor for future value; they should easily ratably pace the value of their 911 counterparts. |
