i guess I'm biased having a petrol blue 79 but it has cork interior. Almost all of the petrol blue cars i have have seen also have cork interior, and the others were black. to me this one is very unique as it is blue / blue.

it seems more folks want a unique color combo these days. i have folks wanting to buy mine because the exterior color is unique (not calling it rare). if they saw the blue interior car that may also like it more because of the unique combo. the ask price for the car being offered for sale with that color combo to me seems like a real good deal.

I bought this car with the intention of keeping it for the long haul, otherwise I certainly wouldn't have put $15+ thousand into it right off the bat and stockpiled another several thousand dollars worth of parts.
I have crawled all over the car prior to buying and more since and I documented whatever I saw with a critical and objective eye. I've even received unsolicited help regarding my sales tactics, stating that I perhaps should have been more discrete in my naming of flaws.
I do not see it that way. I want whomever buys the car to be happy and feel it was truthfully represented. I have no problem being forthright about where I am with it. I purchased it for $39k, spent over a thousand getting it titled, another 15k with Eisenbuds plus another 4-5 thousand on parts. That's about $60k and I have receipts to substantiate all of this.
My interest in Porsches has continued to evolve over my period of ownership and I have decided that I want a newer car, specifically a 997 GT3. I have the money to buy one without selling the 930, but frankly it's irresponsible for me to do so and I already have more vehicles than space.
I don't have a lot of time and as much as I enjoy chatting about these cars, I'm looking for an easy quick sale. Sure, I'd like to recoup my investment but unless I sit on it for a couple of years with continued across the board appreciation, that isn't likely to happen. I figure it's probably worth about $50k and I'm okay with eating the difference and getting what I want. I've had it sold twice to guys from CA, but I'm sure it won't smog, so they're moving on. A few others are actively interested.
Matt, I respect your knowledge from lurking on these boards, and I know I'm not alone. If I don't have the car sold soon, I'd be happy to pay you to come up and look the car over. I'm sure I'll learn some things about it and you'd of course be free to share your thoughts whatever they may be.

Thanks,
Bill
Bill,
You don't see many posts like this on the boards these days! GLWS!
I'm with TTSurgeon. I think the interior is holding this bargain back…I love the exterior color.

I disagree and think the color adds value. Problem is a lot of buyers these days are only looking for perfect and haven't the time to mess with the cars minor flaws. Crazy but I think the car would sell easier at a higher price with the flaws attended to.

to the guys on the board that say there are still deals out there...well here you go. this is one of them! step up fellas.

the seller seems honest and accurate in the car's description. he also seems resigned to sell to a real buyer for a real negotiated price. I too love the blue on a 930.

I know this car. I also know the current owner and the previous owner. I looked at buying it a year ago and probably would have except for the fact that a '79 930 (also Petrol Blue) that I had known about for several years suddenly became available. Bill and I became aquatinted when he was looking at buying it and have had many conversations before and after the purchase. I applaud his absolute candor in describing it. It's not a garage queen for sure but it's not priced like one either. In my opinion it is a perfect platform for a 930 that could be finished to an individual's taste and driven & enjoyed without worry. With the engine and gearbox work done, Bill has done most of the "heavy lifting". It's a solid driver as it sits and priced fairly. If not for the fact that I'm out of parking slots I'd be working something out with Bill right now so he could get on to his GT3 search. -John

Thanks John and others who've chimed in. Chris, I appreciate the referral for the Euro broker. For now, let's see if we can keep this one here in the States.
I did find 3 pages of receipts from Powertech in 2002, which I've added to the classified ad. This details work to the long block and substantiates mileage at 73k at that time. With all of the work done, I feel the engine and transmission are healthy and can confirm this by the seat of my pants.

I could see that, maybe redo the interior and price it accordingly?

How hard is this car to smog in CA? What are the costs involved?

Funny the emissions were mentioned. That was my other thought that I didn't mention. CO runs CA emissions standards. It can be a royal pain. Not as easy as you guys might think. Since they rewrote the vintage/collector laws because a bunch of 80's Ford F150 gross polluters were hiding on collectors plates passing has become a challenge.
/five,
Ping me if you want to meet up. Not looking to slag your car. Just in this market a 930 taking more than a week to sell suggests something we are missing in the ad.
I disagree with whomever is advising you. I personally appreciate your open and candid ad. No BS. Same way I write ads.

Based on an experience getting a '77 930 smogged in CA the problem won't be the sniff test. US 930s didn't have catalytic convertors until '86. I think the biggest question and potential problem would be how does CA deal with RoW cars and what would be required to pass the visual inspection? I also think I have heard that different counties/municipalities are more or less strict. Maybe someone can chime in on that.

Thanks for the comments on my black/black 1986, I think maybe the market is a little flat. People just went crazy on 930's in the last 2 years. We quote Haggerty Insurance all the time for the rise but they insure cars, so usually in my opinion very high quotes. But I am surprise my car did not sell yet much interests and will in time. I pride myself on the car being factory correct, I understand it's hard to leave stock over the years, but sometimes mods show someone fiddling with a good thing, original once is a good statement, my color is acceptable, would I like Slate Gray, yes...but black and red is what people bought during the 80's. Keeping the car is not a problem for me, I do not need to sell, but I have 7 cars and it's not getting the use it was made for....

I think the market is still on a upward trajectory just not as dramatic. A lot of the low mile garage queens have already changed hands, some may have realized they overpaid, now that the patina has worn off the relationship, they may try and flip the car to recoup losses. There's also a lot of lesser cars; heavily modded, conversions, "need work" or 20 footers on the market (not to mention they made 20k 930s) which are historically harder sells. Hence, a slight flattening of the market.
Who knows, that's my theory.

i saw this on BaT today. it's an 80 928 with petrol blue exterior and blue interior, just like your 80 930. i think the combo is great.

I agree with TT, but although they made so many 930s the supply remains pretty low.

That's because, all the pristine ones have sold and most who want one, have one already. Imho

I absolutely love Petrol blue and while I'm not crazy about the blue interior I'm shocked to see this car still on the block. Seems like a really well sorted and honestly represented car.
Way underpriced IMHO
