would you skip the PPI if....
Would you skip the PPI if the two independant shops that you would have had do the PPI where both involved with the rebuild, with the two master techs doing the job together on a 3.0SC?
And both of them saying "nothing wrong but some cosmetics..." |

Probably not.
A good PPI really doesn't cost much, and is good insurance against other issues that might not have come up during an engine rebuild. How do you know the brake lines don't need replacing or the shocks aren't worn out, for example. It's also useful for giving a rough idea of what your costs might be to correct whatever minor issues there may be. |

car had a all new brakes, lines, booster, oil cooler, oil lines, clutch, SSI conversion, new renn air AC, new suspension/torsion bars, valves machined, new valve springs/rockers, cylinders/pistons, tensioners, cams, ignition, injectors..
Im hedging against it, and may rue that decision... |

Take a look at Frans thread "Porsche approved rusty Carrera" under tech - but then again I am maybe about to buy a 2.3-16 that has had rust repairs without seeing it and without PPI. I guess I just feel lucky

Then why risk it? Unless you enjoy stress, I'd just do it and get it over with.

I would never answer that question without knowing who the mechanics are.

I'll go out on a limb here, these cars are no longer hobby cars, they have become collectible. That being the case, if you find a good car, I'd buy it. These days, if you snooze, you lose. Believe me, the other buyers will simply buy the car if you hesitate. The way these things are appreciating, one could factor in the cost of a rebuild and still make money on the car.
I had a clean ppi on mine......ended up needing a complete rebuild.
