911SC - Value question- Help Please

I have a line on a 911sc. It is the original owner, around 115k miles. He says all maintenance is up to date. Interior is pretty good, with the drivers seat needing the most attention. It has plenty of wear marks.

Not sure if the car has a sunroof or not.

The exterior is pretty good and I would say it is an 8-8.5 / 10. I am still waiting on the PPI report.

The color is light blue with a tan or saddle interior color.

Can someone tell me what the value of the car might be? What would be a fair price to pay for an sc coupe?

Would the sun roof make a difference in price? I don't think there is much or any rust under the car. The engine seems to be a bit damp, but not "wet".

I have not seen the car in person but I have plans to go see it next week. Car has been in West Texas / NM its entire life.

Any input will be appreciated.

One owner, all maint records and a solid PPI ...I would put it around 22/23k.

Depends a LOT on PPI results and maintenance history, IMO. It either has had or will need the old SC top end job, in my and about a thousand other people on this forum's experience.

Besides that they are great cars and other guys here are more up to date on prices. But you either factor in a top end job or not.

If everything in the ppi is good I would guess low to mid 20s.

Hard to guess without pictures/results of PPI. There can be a big swing in price if the issues list is large or small.

PPI, PPI, PPI , ...

If I recall, there was a poll here asking Pelicanites how many bought their 911 without one.
The result was quite revealing.

At a couple hundred each, the buying costs add up quickly.

I did not do ppi. I'm an auto appraiser. I'll admitt I missed a few things when I inspected the car. I did take the car to a garage and look it over really well myself.

The thing about cars is, if you have to ask, you should probably get a professional's opinion. I didn't do a PPI on my car, but a previous potential purchaser did, and used it to try and negotiate price. So, the seller had a copy.

The seller was fairly firm on the price, and the PPI looked about right to me, so I didn't pay for one of my own and paid very nearly the asking price. I might have gotten a PPI, if there wasn't one just sitting there.

I think one of the reasons folks don't get one is because they are experienced enough to make the right call, or have enough money to swallow a mistake. If you don't know enough to make an educated judgement on your own, best to ask a professional's opinion, IMO.

If the PPI allows you to negotiate a better price, then you save money overall. If it checks out good for a well-priced car, you are in the black as well. If the car presents really well, but has a host of hidden problems, a PPI is the best insurance money you ever spent.

Bought mine without one too.
Relied on the maintenance records, test drive, inspection and my reading of the seller.

If the car is well priced and on sale publicly, there's no time for a PPI.

Top end rebuild?

The carrera 1984 and later typically need the top end rebuild around this mileage. My 81 euro has 168k miles and has 3%-4% across all cylinders

I know the market's hot, but based on my experience I'd temper any temptation to imagine even the cleanest car low risk for repair... and anticipate another 5-10k on top of purchase price for the unexpected stuff. After all it's an old car, and parts are approaching expiration dates due to time rather than simply due to milage.

I had a PPI when i bought my 80SC a year ago. The car was incredibly clean, and very little showed up in the PPI (CVs, Tie Rod Ends, fiddly trim stuff - all which the PO fixed). The thing was the PO hadn't been driving the car aggressively for quite some time...so stuff that seemed tight and like it would last years started to go once I got behind the wheel and started to really drive it.

Little stuff like the catalytic converter, the WUR, the front calipers started pulling right at stops and needed a rebuild, headlight bulbs, high beam wand. Eventually after about 6 months I needed that fun little top end because of 2 broken studs.

Mine had 152k when I bought it - and it has 162k on it now, so yours is a little younger, but thought I'd chime in in case it helps you for comparison.

Somehow I'm still smiling...and driving it like it was built yesterday, and in some respects it now was.

I just sold my 86 coupe this week 187k, 34 k on top and bottom end rebuild. Paint was 7/10, interior was 8/10, very solid car. Sold for 20K in about a week. I honestly think I sold it a little cheap. It is a black car, I found out I can't stand a black car. I bought without PPI, sold without PPI. looking around now for a replacement anything but black or red. Seems its going to cost me quite a bit more. Mileage doesn't bother me a bit. The hunt begins. Tim
