78 SC Targa - Am I off on Value?
Hi All - I have run across a neat little 78 SC Targa that I'd like to buy, but have not yet reached a price with the seller.
It's olive green with tan interior and Fuchs. 104,000 on the odometer. Overall it's in very good shape but could use a little elbow grease & TLC. He's owned the car since 1984, during which time he's only put 30,000 miles on it. Positives: Solid body, glass, and motor as inspected by a local Pcar specialty shop. Negatives: Olive green and Targa are a negative to some, but not me. Mostly it needs a good compounding & waxing. The Targa top needs replacement. I would strongly consider adding an air box pop valve and Carrera tensioners. The local shop has two "done" SCs listed around $15,000, but that same shop says I could quickly put $5000 into the car to "make it right." Thus, I offered him what I felt was a very fair $10,000. He's mulling it over, but thinks it's low. http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq24/dickson746/Olive1_zps889430e1.jpg Your thoughts? Thanks - Dickson |

That color if orginal adds value. 10k is way too low.

Great color ! If. That's OG paint and the car needs no motor work, and there's no rust. I'd hazard a guess you need to add 30-40% more $

10K would probably not be fair to the seller. If the mechanics are OK and the car has books and documentation AND it is the originally green that car should be 20-30K.
The color is special order and adds 50-100% of value, imo. Last edited by christiandk; 05-25-2013 at 08:15 AM.. |

Olive green...
Great color IMO. I'd guess at least $15k+, and you better pony up before someone else jumps on it!
I'm not a targa fan, but I'd sure take one in olive... |

I think so too. Olive over tan is an awesome combo. Offer $13k, be prepared for $15k, do the fixes over time and drive it, and ENJOY it.

Hard to tell from that photo what green it is, but it's not olive.
We're in a weird place in the Porsche market where certain colors add value. In this case, any non-metallic green is a plus for *some* buyers. Were it a longhood, value would be astronomical. In this case, I think $15K is at the low end of current market value if (as you implied) there are no major component issues in the PPI, and if the paint is original (very important).

Think before you type Its not a 20 -30k car unless it has traceable provenance out the ass, and lets face it it doesn't look like that |

Even in uncommon colors, SCs are quite common. The fact that there are so many of them holds the price down, even for the stellar examples. |

I love the car I think 78 SCs have all the charm of a well kept long hood T. These cars are wonderful tourers.
If you do not want..... PM me! I would pay $15 in a heart beat. Hell you buy it and I will pay you a commission.

Thank you
Thank all for the insight. I will raise my bid and assume I will buy the car if I have not offended the seller!
![]() I am fairly sure that it is olive green paint code L274. It is original paint, and the car has never been wrecked. ![]() According to this site (reliable?) there was no "lime green" offered in 1978: http://www.adelgigs.com/911colours.shtml Thanks again. Dickson |

Here is code L260 Apple Green (non-metallic):
Here is the car for sale: ![]() For for sale looks metallic. Only Light Green and Oak Green were factory metallic colors, and neither look like that. I would guess it is east paint to sample, or not original.

Here is a 1980 L275 Light Green metallic. Not the same year, but color code is the same as a 1978 would be:

Here is a 1978 928 in L275 Lint (light) Green. It looks closer. It may just be a factor of the light conditions when the picture was taken.
