After over 10 years of ownership, I think it may be time to sell.
What is she worth?
1987 3.2 Carrera - Black /Black 117,000 miles, no rebuild, but not needed Some minor dings and paint chips, but she mostly looks good. The engine runs strong. The dash pad has a small crack and the driver's seat has a rip in one of the seams. The windshield has a small crack which has not spread in 3 years. Recent work: Engine managment computer rebuild Speed and Reference sensors new Brake pads and rotors replaced Speedometer rebuild Newish tires Vacuum leak hunted down and fixed, mass air sensor cleaned; runs much better now. Tune-up - Cap, rotors, plugs, oil. The usual. The only thing I ever changed on this car was the Euro tail lights. They just look better on the car, in my opinion. Wondering if I should invest in trying to get her looking perfect or just let her sell as is. She is on the wrong coast (Greater Boston Area). I have owned her for over 10 years. She has some very minor surface rust on parts of the undercarriage, but she has never seen a winter on my watch. Pink car seat in the back is testimony to how much I love my daughter. She is very upset with me that I am considering selling the car. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Probably in the $33-35K range.
My guess is that the $2000-2500 you might spend taking care of the minor cosmetic deficiencies would yield 100-150% of the additional investment in market value. But of course, after you fix the annoyances you've been living with, you may be less inclined to sell.

It is amazing to me how much these cars have jumped in price in recent years. However if you factor in that likelihood that I may never own one again, then the price at least helps to take the sting out of that reality.
Can anyone else weigh in on techweenie's estimate? Does it sound like it is the right ballpark to you?

techweenie knows his stuff. i'd say he's pretty spot on given the current market and the recent trends.

G50 carrera.
In high demand with almost not existing supply. Take care of the problems and get top dollar. Or give the next owner a deal. Needs very little, should be nice when all done. GLWS

I think TW is on the money, even though he's not on the same coast as you and me.
You'll have no trouble selling your car as is. Plenty of coupe buyers out there.

cygtoad,
The money you get for your car, no matter how much you get, is only a temporary band aide for the sting you will receive. Especially if you don't see another one in your future. Don't ask me how I know. I've been priced right out of the market. Think twice. |

IF, and I say IF you want to get top dollar, get that seat fixed or replaced, pronto. If it were my car, I'd do it just because I wouldn't be able to look at it. I think that asking in the high thirties is not out of place. Especially if you take care of the cosmetic niggles. But if it were me, I wouldn't sell it. Unless you need to put food on the table, a stack of Benjamins won't make your daughter smile. Do you enjoy driving it? If so, DRIVE it. If not, fix the minor issues, then ask top dollar, then wait for the near top dollar. ![]() |

I would not let it go. In a few years you might get a bit more. 74 coupe is now listed in the classifieds for over $60K !!!

Don't sell unless you need the money. It will always be worth what it is today (unless the world goes to crap) and probably more in the future. Think of it as diversification with satisfaction... domestic, intentional, bonds and cars.
