Porsche race cars....value increase.

Boy, the normal vintage cars are interesting - but how about these ones. I know that few are made and less remain but did they have the same % value increase as the other normal cars?

Hope that they are not all in Arabia or China now!

Those old racecars.....jeez. Gorgeous!

There's a lot of them here in the States. You should fly over for the Monterey Historics sometime or maybe the next Rennsport Reunion in a year or two. Hell, Wayne, the owner of Pelican, has not just one but 2 962s!!!

And a lot of these cars are still raced in HSR down in the SE US. As well as some in California. The Coca Cola 935 still runs regularly. Many of the owners of these old racers don't park.

Just last month a 908 showed up at an open lapping day at our local Colorado racetrack here.

Wow, impressive. I would love to see that Matt. The guy who installed my new radio last week just crashed his friends 956. It is now back in Stuttgart being repaired for 6 figures. All parts have to be made from scratch.

Any idea what carsl like 956 and 962 cost? Cant find any for sale. Not that I am in the market, but my wife has promised me one if she ever gets rich. She is still studying though

By the way if anyone ever needs a correct Blaupunkt, Becker or parts for these, then this guy has it all.

Not sure how long you've been into the hobby/Porsche but the race cars have historically been disproportionately higher than others.

Of course there was a time when the cost of an old Porsche race car was equal to that of new street car..dependent upon what the race car was. Your decision was then do I want a nice shiny new Porsche, or a well worn Porsche race car? Of course there were others that were always more expensive.. and thy have all continued to rise. The cars you mention, are all $1M+ cars now.. and had been $3 - $700k cars for years depending on state of condition.

You cant find many for sale because they usually change hands privately, through the vintage racing community or at auction. A very good friend of mine owned several of these cars, he passed away, and the cars were eventually auctioned during the 2012 Monterrey speed week. All brought big dollars, as they do.

The last Porsche race car I saw in person was a 718 RS Spyder. It sold for $2.75M

Spotted this 904 at a car show here in Victoria BC Canada last month. Its worth a few million and is rarely brought out by the collector.
