912e
With prices going up at a fast rate I think the 912E is next to super rise in value. Has the wonderful 76 911 body and they made very few of these cars for one year only. My friend bought one new in 1976 and he still has it and drives it today. Never been rebuilt. His car is what got me started loving the 911 body. So if the 74-76 911 cars are going through the roof with the problem related 2.7 motor, why not the 912E?

If you check Hagerty they actually place a 912e above a '76 911. They were actually appreciating before the 911 mid years started moving. I made $2500 profit on mine and only owned it half a year.

Yup Matt, I think they are on their way. I love them. Really a nice driving car. Two years ago my friend told me his 912E would never be worth anything. I think in the next two years he will be surprised!

I love my E. After properly tuned and adjusted it really is not the snail many would like it to be. And it takes corners really really well.
I have documentarion from day one on mine, but being my only car with plates on it I am seriously considering letting it be my year around daily driver.....why spare it for someone else

No one really cares any more about the 'problem related' 2.7 as you say that is until it breaks down (maybe).
Yes 912Es are nice cars but in the end it's a 911 body with a VW bus engine. There are some that love them, some that hate them. My suspicions is that they will always hold where they are, trailing 911s of the same year by a little. I don't think it will be a take off in prices. In peoples minds it will always be a car with a 911 body equipped with a VW Type IV engine. It isn't a 911. It wasn't meant to be as it was a 'stop-gap' car here in the USA before the 924 came out. As an investment I wouldn't. As an investment in fun I would. Of course this means nothing if you have something like Christians car that has all books, records, etc. There will always be cars in another class. I just don't hear people say 'Oh, I really want to get myself a 912E' But then again I might need to get out more often... |

Would I switch the 912E for a totally similar 76 911S? Probably..... Having had P-cars most for 20 years I actually only now realize that is it true that these cars are need to to be driven (hard). The 912E did not start to respond until I gave it an Italian tune up and messed with the AFM. Now it actually is kind of fast and has smooth power across the rpm range. I guess many people who dont like the E have only driven bad pieces. 911S bad engines because of thermal reactors? Well the 912E had them too! Guess it all boils down to maintenance on most P cars. 912e
By far my favorite car in my stable! And would be the last one to go if I had to clean house.

PS. My posts hit 912 on a 912 thread. Coincidence, synchronicity, is the universe telling me something...maybe I need to get out and drive some 912Es when I have a chance. Have to find one first, and that may take 6 months. Last edited by CountD; 10-29-2014 at 12:10 PM.. |

Sorry for spamming, guys.
Just took the car for a spin, got inspired - the 923 915 box is a joy when all adjusted to spec....same pure mechanical quality as my old S&W and Colt six shooters. |

Should be. Your car is basically geared like a Carrera RS.

It's a 915 with 7:31 final drive.
11:35 1st 18:33 2nd 23:29 3rd 26:25 4th 29:21 5th Only 4th is different. The RS got 27:25, which is slightly taller. That engine has a bit more legs.

Sold this E a couple of years ago to fund the 911S Targa with no regrets. Rebuilt the engine and used Euro P/C's a web cam and stainless muffler. After lots of tuning of the AFM she ran well, sounded nice but was not a 911. Would I purchase another probably not. I will holdout for a 72T Coupe
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Almost forgot a gratuitous shot of the replacement a 77 911S Targa ![]() For the record the 911S cost 2 grand more than the 912E and the 912E was purchased about 9 years ago.

Wow, the 308 GTS over the Mondial? I have a soft spot 308s. Too much Magnum. The Mondial coupe is a lot more practical in many ways - and a 3.2 Coupe is pretty rare. Drove a black one once, had a cold start issue.
