Things affecting value for SC

Hello,
I recently looked at a 83 SC garage queen. under 80k miles, no rust anywhere. Ran great. The seller wants low 30s.
A couple things that concerned me was that in 22years of ownership hes only put on 8k miles. Should I be worried about differed maintenance? Also it was stated that "the AC hasn't worked since I bought it" and the sunroof won't open, and he couldn't remember when he bought the tires. Also it has not had the timing chain upgrade.
To me this would push it from a condition 2, closer to a condition 3. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thank you,

In order to be a 2, everything has to work, and the car has to look like it just stepped off the production line.

So, condition 2.8, maybe? While the AC shouldn't be a make/break thing, the sunroof and tires are problems. You can't drive it without good tires, and the sunroof might be as cheap as a fuse, or as expensive as a non-functional motor.

Thanks for the feedback. Any insight on how the chain tensioner upgrade affects values? Nearly every article says to upgrade.

No effect on value. That's not deferred maintenance. That car won't be on the market long if you mess around with the small stuff.

Color combo?

What are the exterior & interior colors? Nice options - LSD, sport seats, full leather, etc..?

I ran across a continental orange SC last week with sport seats, I'd easily add $5k for that (or any other unusual) color.

8000 miles in 22 years is low but I'm on target to hit that with some of my cars. Sounds like it was driven pretty regularly up until he owned it. I'd budget for some tires and chain tensioner upgrade.

Add 5k to what value?
Also no special options, and what is considered an unusual color?

For an SC, I guess pretty much anything other than Guards Red, Grand Prix White, or Black.

Others may chime in...

Cheers

THIS.

Keep sweating the small stuff and you're next question will be, "why did I wait?"

I'm no car valuation expert, but I'd argue that this is defined by the buyer.

Example being: The car is in perfect working order but has had the A/C removed. Does that mean it's not working? I could see how some buyers would be concerned and others couldn't care less.

IMO, my car is a solid 2 but has A/C and radio removed. Some buyers would argue it's not original and devalued, others wouldn't blink (possibly like it more) and take the car for what it is/I've made it.

Everybody has a different criteria for what a #1 , 2, etc. car is.
But if you go by what Hagerty or SML use, they very clearly state that a car has to have everything working to be considered in #2 condition.
If you take a brand new car off the dealer lot and remove the AC it is now a #3 car.
I am with the do not snooze and lose this car over little details. AC and chain tensioners are details.

I disagree however that every non #2 car is automatically a #3.
It's a continuum of condition and valuation follows.
Of course a non #2 car is an automatic #3, it could easily be a #4 or 5 or just parts.

"you guys" refers to yourself as one of the "guys" since you're the one making comments on condition and yet you are driving?
Oh well enjoy the drive or the debate or whatever it is you are doing.

I agree with you on price premium for unusual color (and continental orange certainly qualifies) and interior. Was said continental orange SC for sale? Did you buy it?!
