Another example of a frothy market. Seems like lots of people think they have a lottery ticket in barn door 2. It's incredible how many rough cars are coming up for sale at crazy prices.
I guess there's an ass for every seat..........not mine here... This car isn't worth half the asking price ....if even that. ![]() |

The seller is on this forum. He always has overpriced cars/parts for sale. A few months ago he was selling a US Carrera Targa for $85,000 that needed a full restore. He has also bought other members items and tried to flip them for double or triple what he purchased them for. A pair of early Recaros.
I would never buy something from that guy because he is not in the spirit of the hobby and gets off by making money on people who are not aware of the real market value of cars/parts. Last edited by 77Targa0912; 11-08-2014 at 03:45 PM.. |

No hate, I started the thread without realizing the seller was a pelican memeber and had it on the board for sale, and only because I found the price ridiculous. He can offer it for whatever price he wants as far as I am concerned.
I dont know how anyone in the market for and early turbo would even consider that car given what the asking price is. Hey I have been known to be wrong in the market for all sorts of things over the years too. $125k ??? go for it!

If there were a bubble and the bubble collapses, we'd have a lot of sore recent owners. We'd be on the hook for letting crap fly by without a word. As sensible Pcar owners and smart financial guys, we should know better. |

Your avarege potential buyer venturing into the 930 market with the intention to make a +100K USD purchase is not going to be some clueless moron who accidentially signs a big check. He/her will probably have researched the market and will probably be more informed and more up to date than the average guy posting on this forum. By the way, theres also this possible scenario: A couple of years from now the price is perhaps 300K USD. Then we will have a lot of sore potential buyers who were advised not to buy when it was around 100K USD

Don't get it? This $125k barn find requires major restoration. Assuming Hagerty is making a conservative valuation, valued at 80k.

What does Hagarty, NADA etc. have to do with anything?
They are not oracles of the undisputable truth. Those guides are based on yesterdays info and they will show you nothing but some edited picture of last years US sales. According to Hagarty, a 77 class 1 car (best of the best) is around +120k USD. This is so far off the mark, that you really have to question the whole damn thing. And I don't think European buyers hang on to American price guides or PANO articles.

Only a couple years ago, a grey-market 911 Turbo imported from Europe with dubious conversion gremlins, unknown EPA and DOT work, incorrect paint and unknown history would never, ever be touched at this price. The seller would be considered mentally ill, insane, and on top of this, a charlatan. Not to mention one that needed a full restoration.
Not to long ago (and I mean 2 years ago) this was a $35K car. Goes to show how crazy things have gotten. It doesn't matter what someone asks for it, if they get it god bless. If the person buying really wants to put the money down, that's great. Fantastic even. No way would I buy a ROW car that was from Europe without checking it out and to see what shenanigans are there mechanically as well as paint. But that's me. There are other people that will. Fully restored 1976 and 1977 are bringing over 200k I believe. Question is can you make this car perfect for 50k?

I say, great for him. I would sooner buy I car that I know needs restoring than paying huge dollars for one that is already restored. At least when I am done restoring it I know what I have. I don't know why more people don't do it this way. It is not like they will do the work on the car any way. Lets see buy a 930 with really low mileage for $200,000 then find out the only thing that was really restored was the speedo. Not saying anyone would ever be dishonest.
