1978 911 sc value?

There is a 1978 911 sc on ebay that that my brother was thinking about buying and I was wondering what you guys thought it was worth. He's asking $26,000, which I think is to high for it. I was thinking that it's only worth 18-20k. Any thoughts?

Being sold by a dealer, so it's priced at retail. I'd say from just the pictures and the mileage it's a $22-$23 K car, plus dealer markup, so that price is not far off. There's probably a little bit of negotiating room there. That is of course there are no major mechnical issues or hidden rust.

Not a terrible looking car from the pictures.

The overspray and cracking paint on the door jamb are indicators that its' recent repaint was not up to snuff. Not a big fan of a color change -- too bad it isn't still beige.

The seats have been patched up and dyed, but look a little motley compared to the rest of the interior. Sagging headliner needs to be redone. Wheel leather is coming apart.

No pictures of the engine or underside -- seems like an intentional oversight given the rest of the pictures.

Aftermarket A/C, missing compressor. Not an issue to some, but a must for coupes in some climates.

Agree with Theo that $26,750 is full retail on this car -- and it is probably worth low $20s depending on the mechanical condition. I would bet the dealer has lots of room.

I would definitely want a PPI on this one to see what I was getting into. It has a lot of hallmarks of a paint/polish/flip that could be hiding a lot of sins.

1978 Porsche 911SC

Nice car, sorry you guys, its worth close to asking price, low miles & good color combo.

Not perfect but priced right as is for sure.

We are April 2015, a Porsche 911 SC coupe, woaah priced to buy if you can, do your home work and pay for a ppi if your have no confidence/knowledge to buy yourself.

Not for much longer you can buy a SC for this price, believe it or... dream on.

Not sure I would call a dubious white repaint over sketch, mismatched tan vinyl a "good color combo". And I like white cars.

Is it "resale white"?

If it were chiffon or even the original beige over chocolate Brown I might agree.

I don't think it is over priced. It is retail.

And I bet an in person inspection is going to show a lot of issues the selective pictures do not.

Btw - why does a car need a new drivers side window, new door handles, and a new lock mechanism?

It hints at a theft recovery.

Looks like a driver with plenty to do for the new owner while he drives it around. This dealer lied about mileage on another car so don't expect too much truth from them about anything.

26k is market value for it.
