I passed on a jewel of a 914 in the early spring with a 911 motor hot rodded and rebuilt by a master tech. I hate myself now.

When I was a kid living in Germany, we laughed at the 914. Now 35 years later, I want one. Unfortunately extremely hard to find. Most of them in the rust belt are beat and neglected. They are unique and cool cars IMHO. The prices are being pulled up with all of the P'cars. A good car will bring the big money in the future.

I don't know about that Black. I've been watching and looking myself and have seen a quite a few decent 914's out there.

Seems like a good deal for a nice car.

I love my 1.7 BTW: a 1.7 is only 8Hp less than the 'bigger' 2.0 everyone squaks about. Much better to have a well tuned / treated 1.7 than a crappy 2.0.. U hardly notice those 8Hp..anyway it s got a few spots of rust but it's structurally sound and very straight never been hit, great paint/patina. Starts every time and fun to drive. It even has the tail shifter which works perfectly well if you know what you are doing and where the gears are. Just don't let anyone else drive it and the tranny will last a long time. Fun car to drive. Has more "Karman soul" than Stuttgart ask me how I know : I own both a 914 and a 911. The Karman factory used much thinner gauge metal in their build Is my first guess.... anyway they are all 40 yrs old by now so take good care of yours if you have one. I would only upgrade one area: the brakes (it's on the list..) SS fuel lines are a good idea too the ones in the tunnel might be okay... all fuel lines need to be made new to be on the safe side.

Nevermind the fact that Karmann built a ton of 911s and 912s...

Recently bought a similar car for less than 1/2 his asking price. (with extra 2.0)! I have watched the middie 911s price go ballistic and now out my reach so I am looking to the 914s

914 Value
Now may be the ideal time to buy a nice 914 for both investment reasons and the fun factor value.
914s are clearly gaining popularity with collectors here in the US and abroad. The $3-5K nice 914-4s and $10-15K 914-6s are probably gone or at elast very rare finds these days. Properly maintained, rust free or restored cars of any year are pulling $10-20K values and correct 914-6 prices are following the early 911 path. 2.0L and 914-6 values are steadily going up. If you watch eBay, Pelican, AA and collector sites you can see that these cars are now worth 2 to 10 times their original values. 914-6 conversion vales are another story. I personally love them because of what you can do with the 914 platform, all the options for improved power and updated suspension to match handling and braking to that power. Well done cars are very popular and their values are strong. I've bought/sold and restored a dozen or so 914s through a 30+ year period and its refreshing to see these little roadsters getting attention along side their more common 911 siblings. My personal 914 is an early six conversion that presents a great driving experience that is as pure to vintage Porsche as it comes. Let's hope this rise in value of our favorite Porsche roadster holds. 1971 914-6 3.0L conversion. ![]() |
