Is this indicative of mid-year values or a highly optmistic ask

But I guess it is a '74, which *could* command a premium over other middies.

I'm curious because of my 75 targa. I always considered my car a running "parts" car as I don't think even the most committed middie fanatic would attempt restore it to original. For me, its enough to be driving it on nice days, fixing small things and having fun.

But - and I know that a car is only worth what someone will pay - if middies like the one I've linked to in non-running condition are fetching $10k, then it seems as though Armageddon is nigh and even the most humble of middies may have a future.

Middies have come into their own, in many instances equaling SCs in price. While I think that project car a reach the color may get someone's attention and they might go for it. Happened to me recently and a 74 coupe that spent the last 20 years dressed up as a black slantnose is being painted original gulf blue thus week with normal bumpers back on the car.

It's been a few years since I've seen your car in person but I'm pretty confident that if you ever decided to list it you would get low to mid 20s for it today.

Can anyone explain why a 74 middie will be more money than a last year 77 with a fully galvanized body? Basically same car plus rust protection.

If the mentioned car was a 77 same condition will be more or less?

I remember when everyone told me to run from middies because they rust like an old car and the 2.7 will leak and not last. They were the cheapest 911 to get in.

Just to add to this middie conversation,

Smog laws. '75 and under = no smog needed in CA.

Or Colorado. Or a number of other states.

77 had thermal reactors and a smog pump. 74 still had chrome brightwork and early style heat exchangers. The wing windows also open and no flag mirrors. It's the first of the G series cars and many things were transitional from the early cars.

The bad rap of the 2.7 was overblown by Bruce Anderson. US S at 175hp versus 180 for most SCs. Rebuild a 2.7 with case mods and it's a solid little engine. If you is a 76 or 77 and don't have to keep the thermal reactors you can get the head temps down.

They all rust. Just look around and you will see rusty SCs and Carreras. There's a thread I linked recently. Galvanization started much earlier than the internet usually claims. The big tipping point always listed is when the whole thing became galvinized. Prior to that significant portions of the cars were galvinized back way before the mid 70s.

As for the seller's attitude problem? Yeah, I would look elsewhere. Just his wonderful demeanor will keep away most potential buyers.

This was a few months ago but probably a lot more realistic price + much better condition.

Dude really thinks $9k is an insulting offer on a rusted out, clapped out, engine-seized car he is pricing at $10.5k?

$9k strikes me as a very reasonable offer for a car in that condition.

Crap, but people buy lemons and turn them into lemonade.

Betting it's worth $10K to somebody. If the VIN is 91144XXXX, it's going to find a home sooner than later.

Maaaaaybe! But I doubt it. My car is a mess. Terrible respray in non-original color, some rust, 2,2 carb'd engine. It's not a rat rod, just a rat.

I think as long as all the parts are there , it's a base for a nice restoration. Low starting price. Why pay 25k for an imperfect car that you end up restoring. This car leaves some nice budget room for restoration costs. There is a "free" 15 k available to undertake restoration .

You make a good point. I don't claim to be an expert on these cars or their values. But a nice restored example of a middie is probably worth $20k +/- in the current market, so there you go.

I nice restored middie is worth $35-40K in the current market. Drivers are now $25k all day long.

Well, I'll certainly defer to your expertise on this point.

Not sure my "driver" is worth that, as it's pretty funky. But who cares, I'm still enjoying fooling around with it so the value for me is in the experience and fun of ownership.

I haven't been to a C&C in a while but when you've gotten your car finished I hope to see it in person at one of those.

I bought it for the coupe, color and the year . We will enjoy restoring it and have a nice car in the end. We won't make a dime cause we're not sellers. But we will definitely enjoy the process .
