Late 80s super car prices!! WTF!!
What is the deal with the prices of super cars from the late 80s? I own an 1987 Porsche 930 which I would give a grade of B or B+. Hagerty's valuation tools indicate that in the past year the price has risen sharply to over 100,000. The prices for other Porsche models from 87 are mostly flat.
The Ferrari 308 and Testarossa have a similar steep rise in price as does the Countach. I'm a little nervous driving the car knowing it is worth twice what I thought it was. I know asking and getting are 2 different things. Are cars like mine really selling for this amount? Is this just a freakish trend that will correct itself soon or should I consider raising the insurance value on the car. Are these prices here to stay? |

Schafe...
I meant, like, missing the huge run up in air cooled Porsches for the last 2-3 years? The prices for other 87 models (air cooled anyway) have certainly not been flat...check ebay for some shocking news on an 87, 88 or 89, 3.2 G50 Carrera. In fact, EVERY air cooled Porsche EVER produced from day one has been rising meteorically. That's what I meant. You should consider yourself VERY lucky you own the car you do. You have a very desirable 930 that many of us here would love to own, and would pay dearly for. Insure it properly, drive it but be careful. The value of these cars has been out of the bag for a while now, and they tend to disappear out of driveways and garages. Pleasant surprise, no?

Not exactly - I think that the 80s kids are now grown ups with grown up jobs and want to recapture a but of their youth, in the form of the cars that graced their walls in poster form.
If Heather Locklear were commercially available now we'd see a similar bubble ;-) Cheers d.

Probably partly true. But I think the opposite is true, as well. Guys like myself who grew up in the '80s (I'm 34) had posters of these cars on our bedroom walls as our "dream cars". Many of us can now afford them and are, in fact, buying them. |

Ok Mr Trump. Too good for a 9.99 but you drive 912s and 928s.
