Lime Rock Historics Concours 9/6/15
In conjunction with the historic races all Labor Day weekend, LR has a Concours that's pretty unbelievable. Besides the cars actually entered, they allow other marques to park along the track for show and tell. There had to be 400-500 cars.

Photo by Greg Clark/Lime Rock Park Originally built with a competition “spyder” body by Carrozzeria Touring, between 1931 and 1933 this SSK was campaigned in the Mille Miglia, various hill climbs and other local events by original owner Trossi and following owners. The Italian count re-purchased the car and commissioned new bodywork in 1934. Willy White, an unknown American coachbuilder, is presumed to be the designer of the spectacular coachwork but that’s never been confirmed. “The Trossi SSK is truly a work of art,” said Festival organizer Murray Smith. “This car is so rarely seen in public, I can’t thank Ralph enough for entering it in our concours for everyone to enjoy." The Lauren SSK previously won Best of Show at the 1993 Pebble Beach concours and at Italy's Villa d'Este concours in 2007. Appropriately, the SSK was shown alongside five other spectacularly important Mercedes competition cars; two from the Mercedes Classic Center in Germany (the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR “722” and a 1955 Mercedes-Benz W196 Grand Prix Silver Arrow), two from The Revs Institute of Naples, Fla. (1939 Mercedes-Benz W154 and 1914 Mercedes Grand Prix car), and one from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum (1908 Mercedes Brooklands). When I lived in CT, this was a no miss weekend. Took my factory five Daytona coupe one year and got to take a lap around the track! That same year, a woman driving a Ferrari 250 GTO was leading the field when two R type Jaguars started pushing the limit. She dispatched them with little effort in a $10M+ vintage race car. My favorite spot to watch the race is under the big tree on the hill side between turns 3 and 4. Great time!

My 930 Won!
I'm still floating on air after winning 1st Place in the D5 Class. AND, to go through the winners circle and be presented my trophy in the presence of the likes of Sir Stirling and Jochan Maas - well, that memory will never die! I got to do the trip in the 930 up to The Park and my son got the honors of driving home.
The 1st silver car you see displayed next to me is a stunning 2003 Superformance Daytona Coupe that the owner bought from Peter Brock (the designer of the original Daytona Coupe for Shelby American) just a few days ago. Beside that is a 1985 Porsche 959 ‘Vorserie’ which was simply amazing. ![]()
