Price of Parts going thru the Roof?
Lots of discussion here on the steep price increace of Air Cooled cars recently........
BUT, I haven't looked at the price of parts for a few years and I'm shocked at what I see......Example, prices I paid for certain parts about 5 to 7 years ago: $175 - Set of 2.4 heads with new valve job $250 - Set of 2.4 cylinders, pistons and rings with only 1,000 miles from new $600 - Set of Fuchs 16x6 and 16x7 with great Dunlop tires FREE - Seats out of a 1972 in very good shape. $50 - Starter motor $200 - Set of very good Zenith 40-TIN $4,500 - 3.0 engine with high compression 3.2 Max Mortiz kit...964 cams, balanced, new studs, fresh rebuild. 209 RWHP.....Happy Times Anyhow, these prices are are not the current market for sure.....Agreed?

You can add just about every part to the early cars on that list. Except for maybe sugar scoops. I paid 500 for an orange bar badge and actually I think I got a screaming deal. Yes times have truly changed. Nobody's parting these cars out anymore. They're trying to put every old rust bucket back on the road.

In ten more years the air cooled 911 will truly be a very rich mans car. Just like the 356 is today. Remember 25 years ago there were old worn out 912's all over the place for $7000. Look at them now!

The tool kit prices are incredibly high. My 75 doesn't have a kit and I'm doing just fine using tools that work much better than original. Guess I'm not a "purist"? What's the deal on guys wanting the gloves that came in kit? Tim

I made my own took kit in a nice roll also with more items than the original. But I would have the Porsche tool kit if I could. We will all sell our cars someday and the more original the better. Folks will ask, "Do you have the tool kit? The air compressor, The spare tire? Records and books? " . All of that could mean thousands of dollars more.

I sold my 2002 bmw back in the early 80s because any parts you wanted to buy at Vasek were priced like they came off a new "expensive" 320i
If you think of a part you need and then see what it would cost for a new Porsche it would not look so bad , Thankfully we have Pelican and other aftermarket sellers and do not have to go to the Porsche dealer for everything

I bought one of these just over a year ago (essentially new, as the one listed here appears to be) for $250 shipped ... and it had been for sale with no hits for quite awhile when I finally bought it. As kids today would say, cray cray!

I bought a pair of 1981 930 leather sport seats 3 years ago for $1100. with just the left upper leather bolster redyed from slide in wear otherwise show condition original. I thought it was a decent price then. Probably 3 times that now.

Well, our cars are getting very expensive. Only rich guys can spend $100,000 plus on a classic car. So the parts folks know that rich guys will pay $20,000 to get their new 40 year old Porsche rebuilt. They know that rich guys will buy all the parts they need no matter what the cost. Sad to say but our cars have moved over to a whole new high end group of owners. And more every day. Remember 30 years ago there were junk worn out 912's everywhere? You could pick one up for $6000 easy. Now they are restored and sell for $70,000!!! Mini Cooper and the Cayman S are starting to look pretty good! BTW, I spent a day this week in a Cayman S and it still is the best car I have ever driven!
