Advice on 996 TT

One of my friends just crashed his nice 928 GT. Now he is looking to buy a 100k mls 996TT.

It seems fairly priced, but with that milage it will never gain in value even if the unthinkable should happen and the 996 would be considered a classic.

Undoubtly it is a great car, but with that milage I guess a lot of things could go wrong, turbo, engine, driveline etc. etc.

The car is serviced all the way through its life.

Any opinions?

Great cars. Engine and gearbox are bulletproof.

If he wants an investment car I think he's a fool. That's not because the car is a bad choice but because I will always saying that investing in cars is a fool's errand.

Can you define "fairly priced"?

996tt's are under valued (or at least my was when I bought it last year for 35k). Although I wished I had gotten at 2002 or later for the golvebox.

I believe the value of 996 TT's will continue to climb. The 964 is a good example. 8 years ago, nobody wanted one. They were the red headed stepchild of the line. Now look at them! I think the 996 lines are just now making sense. The GT1 headlights finally look great (my opinion) and the subtle smooth lines of the narrow body have become more appealing. Everyone loves an underdog

Like Matt says. Denmark and Norway have a crazy taxation system on cars.

The car costs roughly 90.000 USD. 60.000 of that are taxes

I'm thinking it could be my next car. I'd like one with high miles on the cheap!

Interior feels cheap unless full leather
Headlights. Well you know.
Thin body, fantastic engine and trans.

Great cars if you can deal with the ugly face! I think under values. Mezger cars will continue to climb

High mileage...

That high mile 996 TT is great. I read a similar tale of a gent in the U.K. with silly high mileage on a 996 GT3 (300k + I think).

Do the turbos last in these things - at least 100k miles?

I don't like the Boxster/GT-1/scrambled egg headlights either. I understand that some people like them I guess, but I'm not one of them. I think the headlights can be addressed in a somewhat passable fix though to emulate a 997.

IMO, the performance and reliability of the 996 TT should "overcome" the odd headlight selection by the factory...

The Turbo has different headlights than the Boxster.

Just think, Christian, if your buddy buys the Turbo, all you'd have to do is pull five of the spark plug leads off of his ride and MAYBE your Bee would be able to out accelerate him!!!

I still think fondly about the "912e, wifey and speedometer" story you posted - that was definitely a "gift" that keeps on giving, bro!
