How Many Cars Are Going Out of The Country
I hate to say it but I have sold 3 cars in the last year to out of the country buyers, they were the only ones willing to pay a fair price. Sooner or later I think the number of cars leaving the US will start to effect the price, I guess that could be good if you have a car you are hanging onto but bad if you are looking to buy. Who else has sold a car out of the country? where did it go?

When I purchased my 930 about a year ago the seller said he was on a guy from Germany right before me. It sounds like Canada is have a rough go with currency as there's another thread about them getting priced out. Maybe there is be a influx of fresh Canadian Porsches?? That is unless they don't go over seas.

Anytime I want to sell my rust bucket one owner, 1969 Coupe - I have a standing offer from Walter in Belgium - I've visited his garage and have total respect for him:

Except for my two SCs all my 912s (4), my 356 and my two Split Screen buses went to Europe with Belgium being the number one destination. Now this was back when the Euro was 1.28 or so to the dollar but now its at 1.08 and a lot of EU buyers now own the classic Porsche of their dreams I would expect a tail off of exports. That said, I was dropping off some Model A stuff at California Shipping here in Stanton CA and the place was packed with VW Bay Window Campers and Mustangs. No Porsches that I saw.

I used CalShip years ago until they damaged a car and refused to reimburse the shipper (despite a dated photo of the undamaged car in their lot prior to shipping). They are crooks.
I have more recently used CFR/Rinkens and every time I visit there, I see an average of 20 911s leaving the country. There are several other large shippers in LA and I think it's safe to say that at least 100 911s leave the US every month from LA. Needless to say, there are a bunch of other container ports in the US, so a conservative guess would be 500 911s/month leaving. I always like to sell cars within the US, but European buyers are more solid and decisive, in my experience.

Are the cars typically sold here on Pelican to Europe? Or do you find that you get more European interest from AutoTrader/EBay?

Me too. Sorry for those who miss out. Go to any auction, car show, Cconcours etc, and hear the same sad story. Why I should/could have bought one years ago. Most really desirable cars seldom reverse in value.

I think as the FX gets closer to par with the Euro, quite a few may start to come back.

I too doubt very many of those will ever come back, not only shipping charges, duty and other taxes, but if they being flipped the price is going to be bumped quite a bit. |
