Cayman / boxer engine
I am thinking this has been discussed to its limits but
With the advent of all the cylinder piston problems with these ,I am thinking the values will drop a lot ?

They are used cars. They aren't done depreciating yet. $6-10k 986 Boxsters are a reality right now. $15k 987.1 Caymans will be the case in the next few years.

Yes, (here is the but ) LOL
But, Lots of used cars there is lots of life left, in this scenario, between the gamble on the IMS, and the for sure on the cylinders that a big cash out lay! L&N engineering has a 4 to 6 grand cure not counting labor. So that was my question, will these just start to get passed by? I have started off and on thinking about a sexy Cayman , but I start to rethink and have to mentally deduct for the coming nightmare.

The internet and the shops looking to make money on them want you to think its a bigger issue than it really is. Everything wears out eventually but this idea that there is widespread premature failure on most if these cars just isn't backed up with facts.
They will become the 944 and 928 of the future. Guys who are into them will own a couple of them for parts harvest.

I know there is lots of hype, and the IMS issue is overblown.
However, to the best of my knowledge, everyone one of these will suffer piston to cylinder score and failure at some point . I do not want to quote people without finding the paragraph...But I think Jeff Alton may have eluded to this. He may have not... But the point is , is there is a big problem. So that was my question- will this car just be bypassed .

I really like the Cayman. Fantastic car. My friend had an 08 that he loves but worries about the engine problems. Always cracking open his used oil filters looking for and kind of metal. When I'm ready, I'll go for the 09 model year. No more IMS.

I think for piece of mind he should just do the IMS and call it a day.
