991R median price forecast

Now that the details and pics of the 911R have been leaked, and that initial reactions seem mixed, but allocations will be very scarce, what's your forecast for the clearing price of 991R sales over the first, say, six months?

I say two-fiddy.

MSRPx2. Look to recent 991rs sales and add a bit for the manual and exclusivity.

in the UK the list is around $200k. I'd imagine a fair few of those 918 buyers will flip them pretty quickly. I reckon flip-price will jump to around 2xMSRP in the days/weeks after release, then drop to maybe 1.5x for a while as the bulk of flippers shift their unwanted cars over the following 12-18 months, then climb and climb and climb and climb forever more... like the 997 GT3 4.0

Why do they even make them if true enthusiasts can't buy them? It's not even the money anymore. It's more about what list you're on and whether you're deemed limited edition Porsche worthy. (remember Elaine and the sponges?)

I mean, I've only owned these cars for 46 years. What more do they want?

It smells of Ferrari... I always laughed when people told me of lists one must be on to get some of their cars.

$$$$$$$$$$

You need to be part of the 918 VIP program to get first right of refusal on any of their limited production vehicles. I believe this program was created to fill orders on the delayed 918 Spyder. Pretty good move from a business standpoint...lots of hype and maintains resale values of these hard to get models.

"VIPs also have priority on ordering a regular production car. There is a catch though. Let's say you want a Cayenne S and a Cayenne GTS. Welp, you can't. VIP privileges are limited to one car per model line per year.

The program lasts a maximum of 10 years from the purchase of the car. If you own the car for six months or less, program benefits end the day the car is sold. If you own it for more than six months and less than 36, you get three more years of the program. But if you own it for more than 36 months, well, you sir get the full magilla, 10 years of being a VIP. Benefits are not transferrable to a new owner."

Preuninger went on record saying they deliberately want to make fewer GT3s and similar than market demand. They want it to be that not everybody who wants one, gets one. I guess it creates cachet and buzz and that's good for the brand

Isn't it easier to just increase the price?

“I have a check here for $200K. Can I buy a 911R please?”
“A what?”
“A 911R. You know, the new 911 for the true Porsche enthusiast.”
“Oh, that. No, sorry, they’re not out yet.”
“That’s ok. I’ll order one.”
“No, you can’t. They’re not for sale.”
“What do you mean, not for sale.”
“Well, they’re all allocated.”
“To whom?”
“To customers.”
“But I’m a customer!”
“Yes, you are, but you weren’t on the list.’
“There’s a list? I thought you said they weren’t out yet?”
“They aren’t.”
“But they’re all sold?”
“Allocated.”
“Allocated? Ok, can I get on the list?”
“No. It’s not like that. They’re all sold. Did you buy a Spyder?”
“They were a million bucks! I tried, but there weren’t any for sale!”
“Right. You weren’t on the list!”
“List again?”
“Yup. You had to be on that list. Only 918 made. Very special car.”
“I know, I know. I’ve seen them parked next to the Unicorns at Cars and Coffee.”
“No need to be flippant!”
“Ok, sorry. So you don’t want my check, and you can’t get me a 911R?”
“Oh, we want your check, but we can’t get you a 911R.”
“So if I bought a Spyder, I’d be on the list for the 911R?”
“Right.”
“But I couldn’t get on that list either.”
“Right. Did you buy a GT3 RS 4.0?”
“I TRIED! All allocated!”
“Right, You weren’t on the list. Did you buy the Carrera GT?”
“That was like 10 years ago! It was $250K! Rare as hens teeth! No, of course I didn’t buy a Carerra GT!”
“Well, there you go!”
“No list again?”
“Right.”
“So you’re telling me I had to buy a Carrera GT to be on the list to buy the GT3 RS 4.0 to be on the list to buy a Spyder so I could be invited to buy the 911R?”
“Sort of. I’m sorry.”
“How ‘bout I take my $200K across the street to Ferrari and buy one of their cars? How about that?”
“I’m sorry. Good luck getting a nice Ferrari for $200K, BTW. You sure you don’t want a nice Turbo S or something?”
“Is there a list?”
“Yes. But, if you give me that check for $200K, I think there might be a spot opening up?”

NYNick - that was perfect. I wish the Big Wigs at PCNA would read that. Smug bastards.

Someone mentioned on another thread that the 991R should be their base model (well, perhaps less horsepower like you would find in a base model). I agree. Isn't that what many of us want, a basic, no frills, manual trans 911? They're obviously popular enough.

I shouldn't even be reading about the 911R, I'm not on that list.
