Any idea what an as is 84 944 is worth?

Helping to raise outreach funds for a church. Donated 944 Porsche came in on a trailer. No battery yet but gonna try tomorrow. Assume tank flush at minimum. What's fair for a beater 944 worth. Cookie wheels and standard seats. Black on black. Anyone have interest in talking? I'd like to give em a low and a high price. Seats have splits and paint is weird. Needs some compound polish and buffer. Pics avail in morning. Any and all input is appreciated. Thx. Mark

Pics??

$500-1000 for a rough non-runner. If the car is a "clean" non-runner I've seen them snapped off craigslist for $1500+ pretty quickly.

That is an early offset 944. Most cars like you describe are bought to be "parted." Value depends on whether it will run or not. Even if it runs, well.... it's Porsche. Not cheap to bring it up to snuff unless you do the work yourself. Pixs would be very helpful.

As a 944 owner for over 12 years (1985.5) it is not worth the money nor the effort by your organization to get the car in decent enough running order to make any profit! This is a Porsche and parts will be costly and labor will be high unless you have skilled mechanics to get this car back to standard. Your better off advertising the car for parts or as a "father-son restoration project". These early 944's suffered from issues such as: motor mounts (most upgraded to the turbo mounts), cracking headers (cast iron), A-arm rebuilding, oil cooler seal deterioration (check the oil dip stick and see if the oil looks like chocolate milk - IF SO that means oil is in the antifreeze and vice-a-versa as the seal on the oil cooler is gone). Engine needs work! Rubber center clutch deterioration, torque tube bearing noise, warped radiator expansion tanks, etc, etc, etc, etc. You will find yourself throwing good money after bad as probably did the owner who brought it over to you. IF HOWEVER, your congregation might have mechanics and the time to donate to get it running and working, it can be a fun project. Many nationwide vendors selling Porsche parts and all competitive so you can find deals. These cars are for sale as "beaters" everywhere and you can get lucky and find a good parts car cheap. This board (go to the 944 BBS) can provide valued assistance if you pursue the repair and restoration challenge.

Good luck

That's a great buy! That car is probably worth double that right now. Check out these for BaT completed auctions for comparison with similar mileage 944s.

1987.5 Porsche 944 | Bring a Trailer
65K-Mile 1987 Porsche 944 S | Bring a Trailer

The OP's car......$1k, +/- $500 non-running depending on condition. If you can get it to run, I'd say it's worth $2k as a beater.

Totally. Can't say I know much about the 944 market, but no way there is a "perfect no issues" porsche of any model of any vintage at $3,500 anymore. It's kind of absurd there ever was one, really...

The base 944 has about 150hp. Market seems to be from $3000 to $4500 for a nicer enthusiast sorted one. I am guessing they are not popular since they are not all that fast, yet are still expensive to repair.
944 S has 190-210HP. Seems a much better value than the base 944. Market seems to be $6k to $9k, the top end being low miles, original, etc.
944 Turbo has 220 to 250 HP, and is obviously the one people want. Middle of market seems to be $10k, while top of the market seems to be $17k to $20k. (Orig, low miles, etc)

I've been surprised with 944 market lately. Top of the market 944S is over $13k. Check out the red one in the link above.

I'd guess that top of the market 944 8v is around $10k. But haven't seen too many good ones lately. The white $9k BaT one look very good but was far from excellent. Most 944 are beat and are $2-4k cars.

Top of market for a 951 is $30k+. Seen two sell for this recently with 40k ish miles. Most 951 cars are for sale in the teens.

Sorry for only citing BaT auctions, but most of the cars that sell there seem to be fairly accurate and representative of the car markets that I watch (944, 911/912, 914, M-cars, Datsun Z, early RX7, etc)

Next rising market in classic Porsche world? 951. Only the low mile all originals. In fact that ship has already taken off.
