Happened just today while getting gas before my San Diego outback trip. A rich looking Hispanic guy asked me if it was for sale. I told him no and told him to look on Craig's List.

I've had a couple of people ask me if my 356 was for sale last summer. I suppose everyone has their price but I seriously doubt they have a clue where air cooled prices are these days. Its just easier to firmly say no

happened at a C&C meet, had a guy ask if I would take $25K cash for my 87 coupe, I paused for a moment to think about it like I was seriously entertaining the thought...mmmm I said " would you goooo...say... $75K for it?".... "What??"he angrily came back with a "hell no!" ...."well I no more would sell my car for $25K than you would pay $75K for it. .. I followed with " meet me in betweenie @$50K and its yours." his sneakers left skid marks

Not in person but I have had a few small car specialty car dealers send me stuff to my house soliciting a purchase.

This was in Atwater. I had s couple of Russian or Armenian young men in their pick up truck sitting there behind my 930 waiting for me to come out of this building asking me to sell. Aggressive to say the least but I know that how they are. so I brushed them off, but they don't seem to get the message of "NO, not selling". Kept insisting that "everyone one has a price including you". I said 200k. They got pissed, and said its only worth 50k and that they can get me the money in 15 min. I don't drive it too often and sometimes they leave notes when I go to my parents for dinner. I hate those freaking guys. Where did this happen to you in Pasadena. I am in Pasadena a lot and I will make sure to not drive my car there. I am surprise they don't go up to cars and coffee in La Canada and hang there to do their business?

East Pasadena - Corner Bakery, and Rosemead South. 210 Freeway West Bound at Lake Street (in traffic), Brand Blvd in Glendale and Staples Center n DT LA all within the last two months. I drive as much as possible on weekends with the top off which makes me more accessible / approachable. These guys are an annoyance and definitely looking to low ball if given the chance.

It's a California phenomenon. That, and getting them stolen.

That would make me very angry. You want a price, that's my price, now if you don't like it STFU and GTFO.

I had a guy about a month ago stop as I was getting out of my 88 cab and said he really, really wanted to buy it. I told him I really, really don't want to sell but he kept asking so I said I would take $40K, he said he couldn't go that high and that was that.

The local dealers come out to cars and coffee and I've had a few cards placed on the windshield and one come up to me and ask to give him a call if it's ever for sale. Otherwise no one has asked in public.

We generally get it from truck drivers, since you can't see behind our fence, but they get behind the fence to pick up cars. Luckily we are down a dead end street with a police station across the street, so no one goes behind that fence after hours. I get stopped by the cops late at night, one time three times in the span of an hour.
The truck drivers usually say, "I can have someone here in an hour who will buy this whole place" and they always get mad when I say they can't take pics. Also when I tell them whomever they are about to call will be real pissed when you tell them where you are and all prices are high retail, no long lost stash here. The guy on the other end of the phone always knows about "that guy Adam"... When they asked for my phone number, I tell them to call the number at the bottom of the poster. ![]() ![]()

Had this happen the other day. Was washing the targa after the trip to Hershey , a young boy stops to ask about the car and how much i would take to sell it , I just smiled and said $40 thousand, he quickly replied back with $20 thousand , caught me off guard . I said to him maybe he should come back when he had his drivers licence, He said ok see you in three years and walked away. Did I just sell my car?

Be grateful for all of the positive attention. It is a compliment that others appreciate your car.
I always try to take the time answer all questions and return the compliment on their vehicle. In terms of offers to sell, I just say that the car has a lot of sentimental value and is not for sale.

[QUOTE=coldstart;9103347]Be grateful for all of the positive attention. It is a compliment that others appreciate your car. QUOTE]
Don't take this the wrong way...my point is the attention is not positive at all. I enjoy talking to people who like the car and what to know about it. But when some knucklehead leans out of a moving car to yell "how much, how much will you sell it for it, come on, come on"...or someone anxiously tracks you down in a restaurant to interrupt your meal...I'd say it crossed the line from being a compliment to being a nuisance. So Cal's finest from the looks of things. |
