Thanks to all for the replies. Car belonged to a family friend who recently passed. His heirs knew I am a "car guy" and have owned Porsches in the past(all water pumpers), so they gave me first crack. I shared the info from this thread with them and we were able to strike a deal agreeable to both sides. Being Porsche-less for the last 7 years,I plan on keeping the car, bringing it back and using it. I really didn't need another project, but just couldn't pass up this opportunity. It appears the 911 board is going to be my new haunt.

Thanks again.

Congrats. My advice: leave the car outside for a few days in nice dry, sunny weather and leave the doors open. Get a high end mask and some rubber gloves. Remove as much of the interior as you can, including all door panels out to see if the mold has crept into the inner door areas. Remove all carpet and the rear dash as well. Take everything out that you can: seats, seat sliders, headliner - the works. Then your work will begin...
And remember, every corner you cut, could leave you with a lung infection that could take years to get rid of...No joke!

Congrats Eric,

It is a great color. I am glad to hear that this car is a keeper. It won't be cheap or easy but it is totally a saveable car. Half a dozen years ago we would have stripped and parted out a car like this. Congrats on your new project.

Glad to hear you made the deal. A great chance to bring it back to life! Find some sport seats too.

I'm a fan of brown 911s (I have one). Can't wait to see it cleaned up. Tobacco Brown is a killer color.

Interesting that the moisture only appears inside. My vast experience (one car), when the interior looked like that (dad's barn) the metal parts looked rusty.

You could part the car out for more than 15K ?
Lots of work and money waiting for someone....

Sure, you could part it for $15k, but how much are you paying yourself per hour to do it?

I wouldn't be afraid of that mold at all. In areas of hot humid weather, it will grow in cars that are closed up in dry garages. It seems to particularly like vinyls and leathers, maybe something to do with treatments like armor all. Yes, there are molds that can cause health issues, but most garden varieties are harmless to normal healthy people. Great find.

Probably best to get the mold tested by a lab before you dive into this project. If the mold is 'safe' and interior is salvageable, it will save you a bunch of money. But don't gamble on your health. Be safe and get all the documentation needed for abatement.

I agree with the comment about completely removing the interior. Mold can actually kill a person. Be careful.

Sorry, but this is getting carried away….. I am in the food industry and we deal with microbiological sanitation all the time as a matter of existence. This car can easily be sanitized and Lab tested economically.

PM me if you would like very specific directions as to how to clean and how to certify the microbiological kill.

There are mold removal enzyme sprays you can use, spray on and wipe off. We do it all the time at our auction and we see black mold which is way worse. I bet this surface mold will be a minor issue. The fuel system wi prove to be a larger challenge. I just got my 8 year sitting barn find running perfectly after 7 months. It had a s amount of the same looking mold but not nearly as much. My detail shop gave me a rag and a spray bottle with some enzyme in it and it's been fine since. And I am sensitive to pollen and mold. Have fun and congrats!

Good point but in my mind I was just pointing out the "value" in the purchase if things went south.
