High milage 911sc values
I'm looking at a friends '79 911sc coupe with 195k miles on it and am have trouble figuring out the value.
It's a well kept car he's had for 25 years, 45k on a rebuilt motor, all records, very nice condition. All that I see on the market have much lower miles. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

I'd say you have anywhere from a $25,000 to $35,000 depending on condition. If the car is truly nice that is very hard to find no matter what the miles are.

Who did the rebuild, and do the records show what was done precisely?
It may be an excellent car but in reality many people are reluctant pay up for a car with high miles, and the market in general does seem a bit soft lately. I think it'd be tough selling it in the 30s... What color is it, does it have any options (sport seats, lsd etc)?

The records and the recorded rebuild are critical to pricing the car. Of course all the normal paint and rust and accident condition issues apply as well, but if a reputable engine builder did the job, and it's documented, it makes all the difference. If yes, it's $30k plus.
These cars are still value buys if they're right!

If records show decent quality rebuild and compression numbers are currently good. I say 30ish. 195 k, wouldn't scare me. Good luck, Tim

With the correct rebuild documentation, this would be a 'buy it now' bargain.

Thanks for all the info and thoughts.
The rebuild and all the other maintenance is well documented. The car is a paint to sample color, a silver with black interior. rust free and straight CA. car. He wants $ 30k. I'll try to post some pics. next time I visit. |

The 195K miles is way too close to that psychological 200. However, given the new info on paint to sample, I'll go mid to high 20's and it looks like the seller is right on the mark. Last edited by pmax; 06-26-2016 at 10:31 AM.. |

If a car is good condition (rust free), everything else is a bonus in my mind. You can rebuild and source all other parts. But a rust bucket is another story. Drive it until your ready for restoration.
