It really depends on the car/auction. BAT is a pretty good gauge for classic/enthusiast German, Italian, & Japanese sport car markets. I rarely see wholesale deals on these type of cars. If anything BAT is the place to sell certain models (BMW 2002 etc...)

You're welcome, but they're not personal. And an anecdote is a singular point. With 2 data points, you have, well, data. Not an anecdote.

It's still anecdotal evidence. It's even less valid than you slantnose assertation.

So what is your point? I'm saying, along with most people, that BAT has higher sale prices. I gave a few examples. You're more than welcome to prove rigorously otherwise.

I felt he was the one being a dick. The "thanks" was facetious, as I interpreted it, and was emphasized by the anecdotal dig.

All's you have to do is put your anecdotes into a spreadsheet. BOOM! Data.

Just be sure the sum total of your anecdotes make a valid sample and that the sources are entirely without bias. ;-)

Stand back and let us professionals on BaT school you in the ways of dissecting the minutiae of your vehicle, while the thumb suckers on eBay standby gawking at their own incompetence.
Sugarwood, I look forward to meeting you in the future when my lake house is complete north of nyc.

***forum dating*** Woody, your assessment of that "thanks" post looks spot on to me - was undoubtedly a sarcastic rip (not that there's anything wrong wiff dat'!). |

You're right. Cars on BAT actually sell for pennies on the dollar. I happened to pick the only two auctions in the the last two years that actually sold above 16 cents. Carry on with completely missing the point of anything.

I wouldn't think the eBay sales even make a valid data point as these are not always completed sales. Search sold vehicles, and you'll see that a particular vehicle may have been "sold" on eBay 3 or 4 times, then relisted. These winning bids are non-binding, whereas sales on BaT and live auctions are. (yeah, i guess technically BaT winners can back out an lose only the buyers premium, but I have only heard of it happening once, with over 1000 auctions).

what other auction sites or live auctions that post their results online are out there? so far I only know BAT and ebay. Mecum and Monterey etc don't post their results or I don't know how to access them.

At this time, many bidders believe that the cars have somehow been "vetted" by BaT in some way.
Which, having sold a car on BaT, I can tell you is not true. It's also kind of a "new" thing. |

I do agree, though, car as a whole tend to go for over market value on BaT (at least at this time).
That's why I sold my car there. And was very happy with the result. ![]() |
