Sounds like an incredible deal if a nice car.

Yes, it must have been several years back before the mid-year prices took off.

Looks like he bought it in 2012....

Hell, I bought a decent '87 targa with a rebuilt G50 in 2012 for $10K. I miss the "good old days" :)

I sold a 993 coupe with a 6-speed with 105k mi for $21k in 09!

as a reference point, last year i bought a very well sorted '76 (titled as a '75 since new in CA) with a fresh 3.2, a lot of nice suspension work, and all original other than the motor, steering wheel, AC delete, suspension and jwest shifter. 130k on the clock, zero mechanical issues. full documentation on the car from new, paid $25k.

i, too, bought this car for the narrow body, light weight, and no power brakes/steering and no smog for me in CA. very pleased with that purchase, and feel it's a tremendous value. crazy fun to drive, and ultra reliable. i'd drive it anywhere...

'77s have power assisted brakes. First mid year for that standard I believe. Trivial amount of additional weight and arguably "better" to have.

Thanks for the data point. This sounds like a cool machine! I'd love to see some pics of it. Keep that Middie love going...

I would say that over here in Europe the mid-year stigma is gone. $20k won't get you anything driveable and very good cars are in the $50k range.
