Buyer warning

I wanted to post this warning for other members who might be considering buying parts from Pelican member Jeff Hoagg. A short time ago I purchased a pair of Recaro Pole Positions from Hoagg. As I live a couple of hours away from him, we agreed that myself or someone I knew would come and pick up the seats this month. Friday I contacted Hoagg and advised him that I was going to have one of my employees go and get the seats for me. Hoagg said that would not be a problem. The young man I sent is very polite and waiting for his start date at the U.S. Naval Academy. Top shelf sort of kid! I should mention when I squared the deal with Hoagg, he described the seats as 9 out 10 condition. He further stated if I was at all unhappy, he would refund my money. My instructions to my employee Alex was to give the seats a quick look over before leaving with them, for any major flaws. During his inspection, Alex found a rather large scrape on the back of one, and the seats were certainly not as described. I asked Alex to put Hoagg on the phone and he became quite belligerent. He also ordered Alex off his property and told him he was to contact him by phone to pick up the seats. Keep In mind this is after I had paid Alex $200.00 to drive the 3 hours to get the seats. I then called Hoagg and he became an instant telephone tough guy. He told me Florida has a Stand your ground law, and he would put a bullet in my f---King head if I had a problem with any of this. As a former law enforcement agent, I am quite aware of Florida law and really not too concerned about this moron's threats. I was concerned however about Alex's safety and told him to leave. Mr. Hoagg might want to think twice next time before making a threat to use deadly force,in a case where it is not justified. I am following up and making a phone threats report with local police, so that this is all documented for next time when this man makes a threat or God forbid uses deadly force without justification. Moral of the story this guy is bad news and is a good prospect for getting some mental help !

Did you see photos of the seats before sending Alex?
Were the intentionally deceptive?

I think he just took pics of one of the seats and represented the pics of one seat as both. The seats are not terrible, but I do not appreciate someone telling me he is going to put a bullet in my head, based on my asking a question about his description of the seats. Had I not sent Alex, I would have had not problem dealing with this idiot. This guy is not a stable person obviously.

Mr Hoagg clearly does not understand the intent of FL "Stand Your Ground" law...hope you were able to get your money refunded.

SCrescue you are exactly right, but people like Hoagg are the type that shoot without any good reason like protecting themselves or their family from a serious threat of great bodily harm or death.But then again Hoagg is what I call a telephone tough guy. And Alex was able to take the seats with him. He was my real concern because I felt like I had put him in harm's way. I actually would have enjoyed disarming this a--hole and shoving his gun up his a-s.

Got it...I mistakenly assumed you instructed Alex to leave without the seats based on your comments. Sounds like the alternative definition of stress would apply here: Stress manifests itself as the body's overwhelming desire to choke the living crap out of some a..hole who desperately needs it...;-)

Been living in Florida for nearly six years and the place is littered with that type of psyche, and worse. Needless to say we decided to list our place in the new year, enough is enough.

I have gotten numerous messages from Pelican members wanting to know Jeff Hoagg's screen name to avoid future problems. He goes by Jhoagg on this forum. Best John Szabo
