So 96 now. You're telling me he was 87 in that pic at a PCA event!?! Dude is a rock star.

Unless you absolutely need the money desperately this thing is a keeper. Too much amazing history. Don't sell. It's only going to increase in value with age despite the mileage.

Mileage is so high it's good. It's called the Lindy effect.

Funny you mention Panorama. This photo was published in Panorama July or August 2008. I had given Gene's Porsche mechanic a CD of the pics I took at the Porsche Parade (about 200), and he got this one published crediting himself as the photographer.

Does Panorama have an archive of back issues? There's some research for me.

Yep, he was 87 in this photo. He swims and jogs daily, eats like a bird, sleeps little.

I really appreciate all the comments. I'm figuring this all out as I go along. I bought this car on a total impulse when I accidentally called to find out he had sold it to a stranger for peanuts, even after I argued with him for hours about how he had undervalued it. He wanted it gone. I have no idea what to do, but for now, just research. I have a close friend Porsche aficionado who recommended I contact techweenie, which I did.

This 911E is a 24 year old single malt scotch in Waterford crystal and I am water from the hose.

These are my current what's-your-other-car: both share the chassis and suspension mods of a '65 Shelby Mustang GT350, and the Holman Moody Monte Carlo Rallye Falcons.

What a first post, welcome to forum

1974 work invoice itenary seems collision damage -work, labour for paint part of car, new and repaired parts.

It has not been that big damage -repairs, main dealer repairs itenary gaskets, nuts etc. always make it look huge work, even if it is minor damage. Why carpets, door side pockets were replaced, says left lock post was repaired, possibly door and door card was damaged, they didn't have same tone repair part, so replaced more carpeting.

Properly done job, it does not devalue car at all, and car looks fantastic.

Yup, IS. He is still around. 2-stars, Naval Academy graduate, class of '41, graduated one year early to go war. Gene was in the South Pacific on board ships for all 4 years of the war, involved in every major naval engagement.

Coincidentally, my dad, his younger father-in-law, was a medic embedded with the 1st Marines' Christmas Day invasion of Cape Gloucester, also retired with 2 stars, also a Porsche owner, '63 Super 90, the one I stole to learn how to drive a stick, while he was at sea and mom played bridge. No license, no insurance, no permission no brains.

OMG, my father was in the same class and graduated the same year. PBY pilot shot down. Unfortunately no longer with us. Cool story.

I would expect the number to be much higher, 20-25 flippers

Two, both simply asked to be notified if I did decide to sell, no offers.

If you absolutely have to sell, you're gonna have real enthusiasts desperate to buy it, don't give it to a scalper!!!

Very good points, Rick. It would have been sold to a scalper on the 18th if I had not called on the 13th. I can have this car, or I can have a new house. I do not harbor any delusion that I could keep this car as a daily driver, occasional driver, show car driver, or a shrine in my garage. It's gotta go, just not right this minute. Being an idiot, I have to proceed slowly, methodically, not impulsively, although I have to admit, it was impulsive to buy it in the first place.

Get ahold of Techweenie here; he is an honest broker and may have someone ready to buy.

Thanks, done, and done. I'm digitizing the paperwork today, about 155 pages of receipts.

Very cool story and nice car! 400k is impressive - and it kept it's factory looks! He must have loved the thing.
