Trying to figure out what to do with this '69 911E my brother-in-law sold me. He was the only driver. I have documentation going back to the factory invoice made out to him, not a dealer. Numbers matching, over 400,000 miles, garaged and daily driver all it's life.

It has Ferry Porsche authorized operational vent wings, fabricated and installed on the factory floor in Stuttgart when it got cosmetic upgrades in 1974 with 60,000 miles. Gene is a friend of the Porsche family since 1956, when Ferry sold him a Spyder.

Two engine rebuilds, two transmission rebuilds, replaced body panels and hood. All receipts are Porsche certified shops.

In 1956 Gene was the Naval Attache to the Court of the King of Spain. One day one of his buddies, an aide to the King, came running into Gene's office, grabbed him and took him downstairs to see a brand new 1956 Porsche Spyder. Gene had to have one. The aide called Ferry Porsche and asked to come up to the house with his buddy, Gene. Gene became a friend of the family and drove back to Madrid in a brand new '56 Spyder, a perpetual Porsche owner until last week.

Interesting. Why would a 5 year old car need a ground up restoration?

It was Dr. Porsche's suggestion, for the fun of it, and the car happened to be at the factory coincidentally, when Gene attended a PCA convention at the Nurburgring.

My hats off to your brother in law for treating that Porsche exactly they way it should have been treated. 400k is impressive.

With regards to your question about what to do with it. My vote is for another 400k. Get out there and enjoy it.

According to Gene, it was Ferry's idea, just for the fun of it, since Gene was there with the car, having recently attended a PCA event at the Nurburgring. The documentation includes the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen work orders.

Gene called it a ground up restoration. After reviewing the paperwork, cosmetic upgrades.

Lots of confusing statements.
First paragraph.

All original, numbers matching, never restored, over 400,000 miles.

Second paragraph
got a ground up restoration in 1974 with 60,000 miles

Two engine rebuilds, two transmission rebuilds, original interior, original paint

Cool car, cool story but lots of contradicting statements that don't make much sense to me.

Nah, 400k mile is a killer. Not worth anything. Scrap metal at best. I can do you a favor and take it off your hands for free if you want, I'm sure you could use the garage space. Where are you located?

Nice car. If you decide to sell it make sure to talk to a Longhood 911 expert and I have them help you figure out its true value, condition etc...

Such a cool car!!!! It truly has no comps in the market, so to put on price on it would be next to impossible. Assuming absolutely zero rust and documentation on the rebuilds, I would think it should trade at a minimum where moderate mileage drivers go.

That said, I think the best option for this is at auction. One owner, full docs, (seems to be) impeccable condition....I wouldn't be surprised if it actually trades for a premium over comparable condition lower mileage cars that have been passed around numerous times this cycle.

There is something really cool about having a one owner car in that condition with those kind of miles. It's like a porsche badge of honor.

Hoy cow! I went through some of the receipts. I had to really change the description drastically or be accused of false advertising.

You're right. Thanks. I cleaned it up. Going off what 96 year old brother-in-law says, relying on memory and my own proclivities for exaggeration. I think he means it has not had a formal 100% restoration, except that the mechanical systems have been kept at 100% throughout it's life. I'll get a better idea when I organize all the paperwork that came with it.

He called it a ground up restoration at the factory, but it looks more like a refreshing, reading the invoices, upgrading carpeting and cosmetics, new door handles, etc.

There is a gap in maintenance records between purchase date and 1974, when it went through the factory. There is a gap between 1974 and 1982. Every little thing is documented between 1982 and present.

There have been fender benders. All receipts are from Porsche certified shops.

This is him in 2008, competing at the PCA Porsche Parade in San Diego. He was the oldest participant and the longest term member of the PCA at the event.

With 400k, does it have a million mile odometer? Isn't it in kilometres ?

Some of the paperwork. I should photo every page. There is extensive body work in 2015 and other years. Now I know why my sister made him sell it. He was getting dangerous to himself and others. One day in San Diego, as a passenger, I personally had a near death experience with a dump truck, as his bumper came to a skidding 10-wheel lock-up at about the height of the roof.

It's an estimate based on what mileage is shown on maintenance and repair records and what Gene says. the odometer has turned over 4 times. I think it's at 22,000 right now, on the fourth turn, 422,000. The title will show "not actual mileage, unable to determine".

Correction 1/25; examining the paperwork, based on mileage recorded on receipts, it appears there is 382,674 miles.

Looks like my 69 E ...except with fenders, interior, glass, paint...etc...lol

The coolest story would be if the 96 year old brother in law was selling cos he got bored with that old car and wants to buy a GT3 instead

Like yours, except minor details?

Yup, IS. He is still around. 2-stars, Naval Academy graduate, class of '42, graduated one year early to go war. Gene was in the South Pacific on board ships for all 4 years of the war, involved in every major naval engagement.

Coincidentally, my dad, his younger father-in-law, was a medic embedded with the 1st Marines' Christmas Day invasion of Cape Gloucester, also retired with 2 stars, also a Porsche owner, '63 Super 90, the one I stole to learn how to drive a stick, while he was at sea and mom played bridge. No license, no insurance, no permission no brains.
