kinda bummed the original post was edited to reflect the community criticism/questions on the restoration.

Call hoax? That would have been one elaborate hoax, way above my intelligence level.

The community criticism was justifiable. I had bad info, initially.

The original post was edited to reflect what is actually happening vs what was initially recalled by fading memories and exaggerations and not the true nature of the beast. I'm trying to be forthright and not mislead. The more I read the receipts, the more I find out.

What my brother-in-law referred to as a ground up restoration was actually a cosmetic make-over, and fabricating the operational vent wings, which happened to be performed on the factory floor at Stuttgart Zuffenhausen, at the direction of Dr. Porsche.

Thank you to everyone who recommended Techweenie. This forum is awesome full of awesome people.

Nice story, pleasant read...

The total package of the car with all the history and documentation , will be worth a lot of money to the right person. GL with eventual sell. Patience will be a virtue.

no harm or disrespect intended. the car's past is a great story with plenty of delectable nuggets with names, places and history. my 1st though as I started reading that there is a legacy here of too good to be true, cool, one of a kind unique car stories shared as a hoax to simply toy with a clambering membership. it's even been proven that existing members will acquire a new screen name in order to implement such a hoax.

with all due blame, we DO eat this stuff up hoax or not.

I totally get it. You have high-end pranksters. No harm, no foul.

420K miles. That's only around 10K per year. I'll bet he enjoyed it more than most Porsche owners do.

He got to drive it on the Nurburgring, at full throttle, on the old course. He said, of the banking, the car was at 90 degrees, the ground was next to the window, and the tach was at 6,000 rpm's.

It has been his daily driver since new. This is him, getting on the freeway in a normal manner.

Do Not sell this car for any money the story of the car that goes along with the car is priceless keep it DRIVE THE DAMN THING!!! DRIVE IT AT FULL RPM'S AS FERRY AND OTHERS INTENDED.You will never have a material object with this type of story that will make your pants wet (think a little coming out of the tip) at full speed. Then pass it on to someone in your or your brother in laws family to do the same.

Awesome! Take it to redline - always! That's what they're made for.

Yeah don't sell it. You say you can't have this car and a new house at the same time? Well you can sleep in a car but you can't drive a house.

Now that's what a Porsche sounds like. Nice !

Sell one of the muscle cars and keep this. You will regret selling the 911.

If only, but I'm more dangerous than brother-in-law due to physical deformities and limitations of range of movement.

I would literally be a moving target and an accident waiting to happen in this car. Plus, simply getting in and out of it is laborious. I have to contort myself to get in, and to get out, I have to fall out and pick myself off the ground. I should get a video, we'll all be cracking up.

then get a young man family member to drive you around in it a couple times a month. got a nephew? a grand son? a grand son of the bro-in-law? or some other teen who's clamoring to drive a 5 speed sports car around even WITH his great uncle or whatever riding shotgun? if he's young & healthy I'm sure he'd help you in & out of the car for these afternoon drives. I know id have loved such an opportunity back in the 80's when I started driving.

again, not harm intended, but the diehards in a porsche market place forum are always gunna tell you to sell the buick.

best of luck with this story's end. I hope we can hear it.

Do you have me under surveillance? Today I told someone I could drive it easily with a co-pilot to look both ways at stop signs. Go. No go. Being a perpetual passenger, that's a no go.

Porschaman 01-27-2017 02:22 PM

Co-pilot volunteer

If you decide to move back East, I'll gladly handle the co-pilot duties. Then I'd just enjoy the ride.

10-4 on the co-pilot volunteer application, Porschaman. You're number one for back east reps. Yep, first post ever, last post ever, it's only about the car coming and going. Here it is going to the certified Porsche shop for mechanical and body assessment by the pros. The car was a PCA member it's entire life. Gene has been a PCA member since inception. I will not be titling it nor driving it. I have driven it, extensively, all over San Diego County, every time I visited my sister and Gene. It always draws a crowd.

How do you mean? Why would you mothball the car / put it in storage?
