Thank you for taking the time to post both of these threads.
You can definitely see which auctions get the rare and low mileage cars.

Goodings showed interesting results.....
The two 1989 Carreras were sold at very strong numbers; $81,400 for a 30,000 mile cab and $105,600 for a 20,000 mile coupe. While you can create scenarios where these are the last year prior to the 964 thus unique or special I am not totally convinced. Equally eye opening was the sale of the 1967 912 for $114,000. Difficult to understand given other 912 sales over the last year. Again, 930 Turbos ($115K & $147K) seem to be coming down but these are still strong numbers when taken in context of where 930s were three years ago. Lot 54 997.2 GT3RS sold well at $214,500. Lots of available cars on market. Lot 35 1975 2.7L Carrera at $110,000 while under estimate was a strong sale against current market. Last edited by Macroni; 01-24-2017 at 06:29 AM.. |

Luke,
I think the the two 79 930's were pretty strong sales for inter cooled 930's. They never went to the same pricing as the earlier 3.0 turbo's- I think the biggest correction has been to pricing of the later 86-88 turbo's. Phil |

The three 79s and two 89s showed really no pattern or consistency. I did think the flat nose Cab was a strong sale.

I don't know why folks put $100,000 cars like 930s or Testarossas on BaT.. With these cars folks are going to want to see them up close before bidding. There is quite a difference between buying a $35,000 car sight unseen to a $100,000+ car sight unseen. That simple.

agree, I never sell a car sight unseen or not driven. Just too many variables / misinterpretations / perceptions possible of the buyers or mine. I do buy without one but usually I know how to get the info I need to make a good decision. Many buyers ( except some dealers or flippers ) have little idea how to get it right and usually want to pay less to cover their butts. Once they see it in person / drive it and have it inspected many realize my, what it takes, reasonable and to stop worrying about potential problems that do not exist. Usually a serious keeper buyer wants to see/drive inspect. I'll leave the others ( flippers/ dealers, buyers ) for someone else. Also at auction these advantages of driving, professional inspection etc aren't available before purchase. So even if in the heat of the moment bidding at auction many would have bid more if they had more confidence in what they were getting.

That 914/6 was on BAT last year and only bid to $75K. I'm sure the seller is happy with his $99K from the Gooding auction. Nicely done!

Puzzling that the White 930 sold for more than the Sienna car. The pictures indicate the Sienna car is a much nicer example. My hunch is that someone paid $30k for the Pasha interior even though the CoA doesn't support the originality.
Thanks for posting the results and links... |

Anyone have experience selling with these auctions companies? Seems like the way to go, if you have a nice car.

Thank you. I have what I think is a nice car. All original 89. Low miles. Don't want to deal with regular public.

It did appear when looking at the sales chronologically that the market was in fact stable throughout the year, neither increasing or declining. Unfortunately this was not a real time analysis that would allow the tracking of mileage and originality which I have determined appear to be the most differentiating characteristics. |

I was saying that BaT is a excellent place to sell cars $50,000 and down. 930s on the other hand not so much. I'd say most left substantial money on the table. A nice 930 is a $100,000 car no matter the year. When I say nice that means needing NOTHING mechanically or cosmetically. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
