Dear Friends,
I would like to know what´s worth a 1989 964 ( average car ) Also I would like to know if the 1989 ( non airbag ) worth more or is more collectible then a similar car made in 1990? Thanks |

I have seen 964's selling from 30k to 45k, depending on they're mileage, condition.

I believe '89s are all 4 wheel drive and less desirable.

Average car is running around 115,000mi it seems. Last I looked, high 30's to mid 40's depending on condition. The C2's bringing more at 7 grand..... A 90' C2 recently with a few more in a 8/10 exterior with <60k sold in the neighborhood of 59-60k......
For all intents and purposes, a 964 is bringing about 5 grand more than a 993 given all is equal. Not what the buyer was asking, but it puts into perspective how the market views the 911/964 style.... |

Was looking at a 90 964 C2 with 75K miles, 6 speed. Probably an 8 exterior, comparable interior, engine will need a reseal, or at least top end (which I can do myself). To me this is a solid 3 post reseal. Factoring in that cost -- what's a reasonable market value?
Went to Hagerty's for a price estimate == which i've found to be notoriously high -- but it claims $24.8K for a 3, and only $32.1K for a 2 (which it is not). Something seems amiss -- where are folks getting better value estimates? thanks, Mike ![]() ![]()

Disregard Hagerty those numbers are useless.
The 964 is one of the lowest production of all air cooled 911's the C2 coupe's are most desirable. C4 coupes second all 89's were C4's but all the 89 and 90 along with part of the early 91's had no rings on the engine and had a bad design dual mass later updated. As you get further along in the production life of the 964 the car changed dramatically with nearly every part changed in one way or another. the most desirable other than the RSA's are the 92-94 MY cars. Low production numbers like 160 for US spec MY 94 C2's and 460 of all C2/C4 MY 93's make them hard to come by. Also remember these numbers included tip trans cars as well. If you want a nice 964 start doing some research there is a ton to learn before you buy. Also be weary it is next to impossible to find a good one for sale most are in great need of work or have bad history. I would rate the average a less than # 4 condition for sale but still command $24k or more. In fact a rolled ex racer C2 sold on BAT for $24k recently. If you want a late MY in excellent condition with low mileage expect to pay north of $60k for one if you can find it. Or by one for less and expect to put $20k into it.

If you want a good education on these cars spend some time on the 964 Forum on Rennlist.

I just bought a C2 91 with 78k miles. looked for a while, made offers that were not accepted and ended up paying $44k...this one had an 8 on paint but had a full engine rebuild, new clutch, new suspension, new headers and exhaust, so about $15k worth of maintenance done less than 12 months ago. never thought I would have to pay so much but the $15k sort of sealed the deal for me. Again, made lower offers that were not accepted

Anyone that is looking for a cheap(er) 964: I will be listing my white 90 C4 coupe in a couple weeks with a full professional engine rebuild less than 300 miles ago for 36k OBO. I think that will be a good price for such an awesome car. Will be listed as one of the least expensive 964 coupes on the market, that's for darn sure, but I need it gone. Solid driver's car. Anyone interested, I will have an ad up after the engine is broken in and valves are adjusted/oil changed/etc.

100% stock except for the stereo head unit. Only obvious issue is the Top has to be operated manually. Mike ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looks like a nice buy. Best luck with it.
The front smile is an easy fix. The Cup II's look nice on the cab but your headlights are a bit foggy. What is wrong with the top?

Noticed they were foggy too -- haven't decided what I'm going to do. Haven't looked into the top just as yet. The alarm triggers, so I'm suspecting there maybe some microswitch issues going on -- but at some point I'll dig into it. Mike

You can clean the headlights although it is a royal PITA. Might be easier to buy some H4's if you can find them.
I found using a thin cotton cloth with cleaner attached to a flexible pickup device like this https://www.zoro.com/general-mechanical-pick-up-lighted-36-in-l-70399/i/G3615534/?gclid=CMaQx8eqz9ECFZqLswodQ5UHoA&gclsrc=aw.ds will allow you to clean the lens. The grabber allows you to move it around when inserting it through the bulb opening and you can twirl it to get into the crevices. It takes time and patience and then you need to have dry compressed air to blow them out and allow to dry before reinstalling. I almost forgot you need to remove the vent at the base while doing this and reinstall after they have dried. GL

wow
you fellas are very fortunate to have such low prices for 964 in the States.. here in Oz land, they are super rare and crazy priced. Most 964 here are C4 with approx 200,000kms.. (not miles) or more. And sell for 70-$100k aud. 964 C2 manual is rare here too.. (rarer probably with our smaller market). And prices are north of $120k.. or $150k for a really low mileage and mint condition car. And yes, most of these cars still need 10-20k put into them for suspension, brakes, engine, etc. This is normal now isn't it. I think once most people actually buy the car and bring it up to spec, they keep it for a long while; hence the advertised ones are usually in need of something. Have a go at rebuilding or doing maintenance yourself. It is not very difficult and if I can manage a full rebuild using the pfixit dvd and this websites forums, then I think anyone can. |
