Nice car, to bad it lost the unique 68 S/L only Elephant hide in the restoration.

Sure, but the repaint job on the $180K car is a letdown.

I don't buy cars in this price range. If I did I wouldn't buy this one. Once early S cars broke $100k I lost interest.

I would have no problem either but is any random early S worth $180k? Not to me.

So this friend of mine is walking around the 'California festival of speed' when he comes across a fellow in the pits who just came in from flogging his 300SL around the track. My friend tells him how he is amazed how the 300SL owner can thrash such a valuable car with such abandon. The 'Gull wing' owner says "it is not a valuable car I only paid $6,000 for it"
That is the way I feel about my 68S, I enjoy and like it and thrash about in it but I sure did not pay $180K for it or $100K or 50 or 40 well you get the idea and I do not think I would enjoy it like I do if I had. But I can't any way.
It is strictly an academic exercise to discuses buying 6 figure plus cars with me and when the early S cars got into that territory the fun in buying and dreaming about the next one is gone with me because I got priced out of the game.
I think Matt M, is in that category also?
So to "Plumber" Sure there are a lot of cars I would love to drive the kiddies around in, desire is not what is holding me back, money is.
If I was an adviser to some one looking for a SWB S this one has signs of a amateur restoration and is priced a little high for the quality in my humble opinion.

Ficke you nail it and me. Part of it is taste too. I grew up worshipping the 930 look and ib era cars. It wasn't until a dozen years ago, when I was at Carquip, that I fell in love with long nose cars. And my first 911 became a longnose and I've had a string of them since. But there has always been a piece of me that thinks a 934 or Iroc or Sc-RS looks more muscular. My dream longnose is an ST. So now I've got this oddball hot rod that I look at as an SC-ST, if you will.

These days the 6 figure cars I drool over are factory racecars. All the air cooled RS variants and Cup cars. If I had $175k to buy with I'd buy some 993 or even 996 variant that might not even be street legal.

Can you point out the signs of the crappy restoration, trying to learn here?

Not Crappy, amateur.
68S and L were the only 911's to have the 'Elephant skin' interior. This car does not have it on the dash or the door panels. What about the head liner? Once again one year only.
Original leather had the perforations on the center and not mat leather, this car has some what shiny leather which is good, but not the perforations and the leather is wrinkled, not very skilled or worried about originality.
Original radio and seat belts or pretty basic for a $180K car I would think? not this car.
This is not a bad car, but $180,000? There seems to be a lot of options for 911's at that price point that would fill the bill if fun was the only requirement? Good investment? I do not know?
I am making judgement on a ad, while drinking, so take that into consideration on my evaluation. And remember I am a no body on the internet.
