Vintage 911 Racecar value

I'm curious what a 1970 long hood racecar is worth.

The car is in very good shape, has been well maintained by well known shop. I'm not sure how many hours are on the engine, but its a 2.7 I believe and approx 250 hp. I'm really short on details at the moment.

Is that a $30K car or a $50k car? What more would you need to know in order to guess a value?

Thanks.

Need to know a lot more. There are a ton of factors which would change the value. if it is a 70 model, is it a T, E or S? I believe in 70 the S would have an aluminum decklid and that alone is worth about $4,000.
A 2.7 motor is crap, I can't imagine anyone racing a 2.7, so it is possible you have a modified 2.2 or so other kind of trick motor, definitely worth looking into as a good race motor could be $30K by itself.

NEED MORE INFO!

what he said; a ridiculous amount of variables. If it's just a longhood VIN that's now a race car, won't be spendy. If it still has the core '70 guts and can easily be returned to street, more spendy. Need to know if it retains the interior pieces and steel body work as well.

Pics are the easiest

I lost my notes on the car. I'll see what I can dig up. It's not easily converted Back to a street car. All interior is gone and lots of stuff added like fire suppression system & lexan windows. I'll report back soon.

maybe what class it was last campaigned in might make our insight more worthy... walk outin the garage, does it have fiberglass body panels? is it super wide, or very narrow with the front & rear tires the same size? open the rear hood thingy & take a look? does it have three standing tall stacks on each side? or a piece of cast aluminum that looks like a musical instrument with an air filter on like a top hat? does it have a big, black CIS air filter housing and a ton of hoses going every which way??

most importantly, what color is it and what number is it adorned with?

At minimum any photo answers a raft of questions.

In general, if the wiring harness has been altered, it brings down the value dramatically for anyone not looking for a dedicated track car.

It has a 3.0 motor with carbs and twin plug and 915 with LSD, it wouldn't be worth returning to street. Way too many mods. I'll get some pics next time I see it and try to find out which class it ran in.

911 Race cars are extremely difficult to put a fair value on- most of them are not very well built and in so so condition. A really nicely built 911 built a for vintage class will generally sell for 50c for every $. Folks will pay good money for well built spec 911 cars as well.

A twin plug engine is not cheap and usually not home built. The problem it presents is it's not legal for E or Spec911. This car would be in a GT class where it might have been competitive in the past but likely not now. I think the value will be a sum of the parts scenario on this one.

here is the add for my old car that was transformed by the guy who bought it from me. motor remained the same but a ton of body & paint work, added the cell and some cage enhancements, seat and a bunch of bling and is asking about $25K more than I was asking, or got.

actually closer to 40k than I got for it.... he claims the 5 season motor was redone, but it sure looks untouched from the way I left it.

Well that's the key, if it's going to sell as a dedicated track car - it is potentially correct for a single class and if it's not competitive in that class, it's a nice paperweight.
