understood. i have so many friends with subaru's with 200K + miles on them, and they love them.

i owned 2 consecutive WRX's and they both sucked...

I'll be in SoCal most of next month at my home in Malibu. Why don't you swing by if you're such a badass. Easy to find. It's right on PCH. Just after you pass Geoffrey's on the beach look to your left. It'll be the house you can't afford. Might have to knock on a lot of doors.

Glad we can agree on something. Although I think everything else was gold and that one was only halfway.

Waving the white flag and getting some sleep. Thanks for the debate.

Man we have something in common after all(besides Porsche's) my wife has to remind me all of the time that I'm not nearly as funny as I think I am. Good night you're welcome. Maybe tomorrow you can try working on that thing called kindness

Bragging about your house in Malibu & talking about maids & knocking where the guy is from isn't very classy, those who have it usually don't need to brag about it.- You should keep the debate civil. just my opinion..

Stick around. This is old hat to those of us who have been here longer than a week.

But kudos to you for taking a stand and possibly offending a potential customer or client. It looks like MIB buys and sells cars as well based on his current ad in the for sale forum.

Reminds me of a funny quote from the television show Seinfeld…. As George tries to justify is life he says…. “remember Jerry, its not a lie if you believe it”

Always fun to read your material George, oh I mean maninblack.

Have a wonderful day.

I don't buy and sell cars. I'm a collector and I rarely sell anything. When I do, it's because I have duplicates or I've acquired a better example. The car you reference is a project I bought thinking I'd build a hotrod but, truth be told, it's probably a good enough car for someone to restore. Just too boring for me. So I'm passing it along at no reserve.

It's my real life. And, for the record, I've never intentionally tried to be arrogant other than for comedic effect. If you'll recall, this whole concept of my supposed arrogance started many months ago over a pricing debate and my disagreeing with another forum member's lowball estimate. I mentioned that many of the best cars being sold never came to market publicly as they traded privately to serious collectors and people of means and that the pricing data seen by the masses online wasn't sufficient to price the particular vehicle in question. I was eventually proven right but my comments struck a nerve and led to a spirited debate and my defending my statements.

Maybe I am arrogant. Or maybe that's the inevitable perception based on the facts of my life and my type-A personality. Either way, I'm certainly not ashamed of what I've achieved and every statement I've ever made here, or in any other forum, is 100% factual. LOTS of people here know me personally, know what I do for a living, spend time with me at various Porsche events, have been to my shop to see my collection, and have even been to my home. Call it arrogance if you want but to me it's just reality. I could certainly pretend to be poor but what's the point? I'm not. And my fortunate position in life, my job, my friends, often result in my having specific experiences or gaining specific knowledge that I'm unashamed to share. It is what it is. Sorry to those who are offended.

jpsgarage for anyone who's interested.

This reminds me of myself defending the way I act to others to my wife. I don't think anybody is asking you to change who you are I think if there has been any advice that I have seen or that I can offer its just to soften it up just a bit on the delivery that's all.
Regarding your car collection, its very interesting and diverse. Care to talk a bit about how you came to have such an interesting and diverse selection of cars?

You don't need to justify anything to me. As I said, I find it amusing, and I realize its an act. The rest is just hearsay. As I said a long time ago... if you want to call yourself the king of Siam, go4it !!!!

I think your perspective on the so called "truth" presented here about Carfax is spot on. Same goes for the way you correctly point out the absurdity of phrases like "99% of" or 50% of" which both are clearly based on a pure guess of an irrelevant sample size.

You have an interesting collection of cars, enjoy them, use them in good health. Its a free forum and internet, lay down whatever makes you happy.

Thanks, Nathan.

It's actually getting less diverse as there are probably another dozen or so Porsches I haven't had the time to put online. I lost track at some point and need to do an inventory to figure out what's up and what isn't. I know. First world problems.

I really consider myself a Porsche guy. But I have a fondness for cars that I grew up with. Cars from the 80's particularly that I lusted after but was never going to afford with two parents working at the aluminum plant and paying my own way through college. So, when I could, I started buying those cars. And it got a little bit out of control. I mean, there's really no reason for anyone to own a Subaru Brat, a Citation X-11, and an Isuzu Impluse.

Thankfully, I've gotten it under semi-control. Several years ago I put $45k into an '82 Mazda RX7 restoration. And I'm still only 90% through my $100k+ 944 Turbo restoration. Took me a while to realize I was on a path to bankruptcy.

Weve been down this path before and you know it. I own a 15,000sf restoration facility where we restore only my personal cars. And I'm there every weekend, and many weeknights, getting my hands greasy. Right now we're restoring a 1965 911, a 1969 912, a 1974 911 Carrera, and a 1986 911 Targa (as well as a couple non-Porsche cars like a 1966 Mustang Fastback).

As for status symbols, quite frankly, if that's what's important to me, I can do much better than my cars. I rarely show my cars and many people in my life have no idea about the collection. What I do care about is the work and giving these cars that I love a new life.

I figured there was a connection to some of those cars from your youth/young driving years. I too would probably have a similar collection if I didn't have to sell what I had in order to buy my next car that "I had to have". This is what my garage would look like if I never sold a car: '56 Ghia, 2 x '68 Ghia's, 10 bugs, 3 buses, Datsun 510 2-door, '61 Impala bubbletop, '67 Buick Riviera, '91 Impala Clone, '67 Chevy Blazer, custom S10 pick up, '08 supercharged M3, E39 BMW 540/M5 clone, I know i'm forgetting a few as my memory is fading, plus now the 7 middies that i am fortunate to have.
